My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Grad student by day, lazy grad student by night, tired grad student by morning.

Are you looking for a fun loving geek and/or nerd? Then look no further! I spend most of my day doing math poorly, making the impossible, and cracking the worlds best jokes; so I got that going for me.

I am in the business of making things; meaning I can weld, machine, paint, draw, sew, and hammer. Oddly enough, I don't keep any of the things I make. I guess it is because you can marvel at the existence of an object you did not create, but I can only see the imperfections in the ones that I do make.

This does mean that you will get the greatest hand made gifts ever! I am not gonna lie, I am pretty boss at that.

I enjoy cooking, but do not do it as often as I should/want. Most of my time is spent at work or at school, so I wind up ordering out frequently. When I do cook, unless I am trying to make a specific dish, I like to make it up as I go. Its fun, and lets you use your favorite ingredient of the week in it. My current lead ingredient is white truffle infused olive oil.

From time to time I will paint, draw, sing, play trumpet, or make some neat piece of metal work. I enjoy theater and improv, but have never given acting a serious try.

I can give a technical presentation to 200 people, or give a talk on live tv without getting nervous, but I still get butterflies in my stomach when asking people out. Go figure.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am becoming a grad student and research assistant. I have been working for the same lab for five years now. I mostly work on robots, though sometimes it feels more like I do work for them. Every summer I wind up going to three or four competitions around the United States for various projects I work on.

I scuba dive a few times a year with friends, enjoy driving, and am always open to trying new things. I will try anything once and then a second time to see if it was just a fluke. Only thing I have not tried recently was candied bacon, since I was afraid I would like it too much.

I also play DnD frequently and enjoy playing the occasional board game. Dominion, Cards Against Humanity, something new and interesting. Sorry Catan fans, I am pretty bored with that game.

Two hours of gym twice a week, mostly racquetball, current plans are to keep it up until I can change "a little extra" to "fit."

Every Saturday morning I have friends over for breakfast and to watch the new episode of My Little Pony. Making breakfast for 10 people is fun.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Getting people to smile, forgetting names instantly, and the Oxford Comma.

Fixing things and getting my hands dirty. I do all my own repairs on my car and everything else that is broken.

I am also good at swearing at broken things.

Debating the politics of the aerospace industry. Also, if you think the moon landing was faked, I won't stop until you think otherwise.

Absorbing random facts. I think I would be very good at Pub Quiz, though I have never been to one. I may have drunkenly forgotten the name of the bar we are in, but I will be damned if I don't know where most of the gold in Fort Knox went in 1943
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am tall, have red hair, and a beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Ender's Game, Harry Potter, a few others. I am just starting to read for fun again. The intellectual in me wants to be able to discuss any classic book, but alas, I fall short.

I am a big fan of animation. It is a fantastic art form and always has interesting stories behind it.

The Nightmare Before Christmas, anything by Studio Ghibli, Super hero movies, anything by Pixar, James Bond movies, Moulin Rouge, many Disney movies, Sci-fi, and ones that make you think/confuse the hell out of you/are neat like Primer, Ink, or Moon. Many things outside this too, but those stuck.

Doctor Who, Adventure Time, Star Trek, The Simpsons, Breaking Bad, Bob's Burgers, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Top Gear

Electronic (Daft Punk, Fatboyslim, Justice and others), Rock (Muse, Alice in Chains, and so on), OK GO, Classical/Jazz/Musicals (I played trumpet for over a decade), and odd things I find around, which are sometimes the most interesting.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My car
The laws of physics
Family
A fulcrum and long enough lever
Air/water/food/shelter
The internet
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What and how.
Shapes, how things are made, how to do something, winning imaginary arguments. I like to imagine odd situations, just because life sometimes makes absurd turns.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Playing games with friends or just messing about with a project. I am not much for going out and am tired of going to crowded places where I couldn't hear a nuke go off next door.

It is really hard to convey any personality through self-report, and in so few words. Lets talk.
