What I’m doing with my life
Being a grad student while earning some street cred on the side
I’m really good at
Remembering song lyrics, parallel parking, showing up on time, roughing it/being low maintenance if need be, one-upping you on your jokes (and expecting you to one-up me in return), finding really fun and obscure things to do in the city, public speaking, throwing frisbees, driving golf balls.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Talking Heads/David Byrne, Simon and Garfunkel, Beatles, Common, the 1975, St. Lucia, The Band, Billy Joel, M83, CSS, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Steely Dan, Girl Talk, Tupac, Cut Copy, Passion Pit, Grateful Dead, Weezer, Allman Brothers, Bruce Springsteen, The Fratellis, Chicago, Chromeo, Hall and Oats, Bob Marley, Van Halen, Van Morrison, Francis and the Lights, Daft Punk, Parliament (all funk music and jazz music), late 70s and early 80s hip hop.

One of my top 5 nights in the city belongs to St Nicks Pub, an amazing jazz/african music place up in Harlem that recently closed. Very upsetting.

Books: Anything by Tom Robbins but especially Still Life with Woodpecker, Thinking Fast and Slow, any Dave Sedaris books, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, Keith Richards' Autobiography.

Movies: Stand by Me, Shawshank Redepmtion, Forrest Gump, Mean Girls, Sixteen Candles, The South Park Movie, Dazed and Confused, Wayne's World, Empire of the Sun, Grandma's Boy, Princess Bride, the Thief of Baghdad, Wet Hot American Summer, Stop Making Sense

Food: Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese, good burgers, seafood, corn on the cob, brisket, matzah ball soup, chocolate cake- straight up.
The six things I could never do without
adventuring, or, wandering the city aimlessly

I spend a lot of time thinking about
The most awesome and within-my-reach thing i can be doing this weekend. How great Brooklyn is. How is it possible that I haven't been to a real music festival?!?!
On a typical Friday night I am
seeing music, discovering a unique bar, hanging out with friends in ft. green, astoria or manhattan, sometimes doing work

my idea of awesome: a place in new york that makes you think you're in another decade or another country. or both.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
i thought i made up the chorus to Go Ninja Go when i was a little kid
