My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm great at using words. I'm not great at using words to write a self-summary.

If you think we would hit it off, just message me. Start a conversation. Ask a question, tell me something interesting. Just saying 'Hi' or something weird and sexual doesn't cut it.

There's a ton of information about me on this page. If you don't like any of it, aren't looking for someone like me, and still message me, I will be mercilessly snarky.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a server at a local brewpub. I love it.

In the future, I see myself working to bring cultural and artistic projects to Indy. I love the city and would love to see it continue to grow.

I also really dig beer. It'd be awesome if I found a way to do something with all my beer snobbery and knowledge.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Expressing my thoughts verbally, making friends with cats, planning and Type A organizing, and then falling through on said plans and cluttering up said organization.

I read very fast and very often. I haven't said I'm 'good at reading' since about the third grade, but here we are.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My smile, my laugh, or my knuckle-cracking.

Or, if I have my son, Rowan, with me, they notice the adorable blond monkey I'm chasing down.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I read too much. If I start reading in the same room as you, you will have to pry the book from my hands for me to even remember you are there.
I enjoy sporadically reading about sexual psychology, sociology, paleoanthropology, linguistics, sustainability, ecology, and culture/gender issues.
I love a lot of fiction books, so I'll get back to you on a better list, but for now: Annie On My Mind, Looking For Alaska, East of Eden, A Spot of Bother, A Hundred Years of Solitude.
Also, poetry. I love Pablo Neruda, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Bo Burnham.

Movies: Submarines, TransAmerica, Lost and Delirious, Nothing, The Breakfast Club, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Wristcutters, Groundhog Day, Lost In Translation, Lars And The Real Girl, Moonrise Kingdom, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Away We Go.

I can get down to most music. Here's a slightly arbitrary list of bands I really enjoy on my iPod:
Alexisonfire, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Awolnation, Balance And Composure, Bayside, The Black Keys, Brand New, Bright Eyes, Built To Spill, Childish Gambino, Citizen, Coheed and Cambria, Dessa, The Doors, Every Time I Die, Fall Out Boy, Fleetwood Mac, Foxy Shazam, Fun., The Head and the Heart, Mumford and Sons, Panic at the Disco, Poets of the Fall, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Rival Sons, Say Anything, Spill Canvas, Straylight Run, Sublime, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Live music
2. My son and brothers. I have 3 younger brothers. The eldest is my best friend.
3. Hair bows
4. Coffee/tea/Red Bull/caffeine pills/whatever it takes to wake me up
5. Walks, preferably at night, and while just a little messed up.
6. My books. I have around 450 books, and I've found storage for them through multiple moves and unexpected crises. I'll abandon clothing, records, electronics, anything before parting ways with my books.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Random, vaguely esoteric plans I have for my future.

Alternates for said plans.

The fact that when a scientist studies atoms, it is a group of atoms banding together to study other atoms. Maybe the point of human existence is atomic social research.

I think about myself a fair bit. I'm both narcissistic and painfully self-aware, and began a few months ago to iron out the bits of me I'm not proud of. It's less about being better, more about being authentic.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
My son goes to his dad's for the weekend, so after work you can usually find me at a brewery in Indy, or a friends' house with a 6 pack.
I don't really 'party', so much as get a little fucked up and hang out. We go get food, make a ruckus, listen to music. Bonfires, long drives. Typical bullshit.
Sometimes I make it to a concert, sometimes I veg out and marathon tv shows.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have been homeless, and spent a long time couch-surfing. When I was in my late teens, I found myself self-medicating, depressed, about to give up on life.

I personally wouldn't call myself a former addict, but I understand how one could. I kept my head above water. I learned a lot about myself, about my tolerance, and about drugs.

I still struggle with depression. I probably always will. My family history with mental illness could fill a book.
I don't open up about my mental health, but I don't hide it either. I keep close tabs on myself and know how to get myself well when I start to slip.

If you dig things like:
-people-watching and subsequent people-judging
-sarcasm, sass, snark, insults, comebacks, erroneous character assassinations, pretensions, and playing pretend
-poetry, prose, art, music, theatre, film. I am the least artistically talented person in most rooms, which doesn't stop me from LOVING art.
