I am thoughtful, low-key, and a touch sarcastic.
My Self-Summary
I work (too much, probably) for an NGO where I end up traveling a
fair amount. Which I love, but sometimes I think it would be nice
if I could meet someone to have a drink and who knows, maybe
eventually travel with. But the travel makes it hard to meet that
someone, see? So I thought I'd see what this online dating thing
was all about.
When I'm not working, I like good music, crap bars, planning or
actually taking weekend trips, and someone who can make me laugh.
What I’m doing with my life
See above; I film and occasionally photograph projects.
I’m really good at
I can sing any 80s sitcom theme song. I'm not bad at
music in general - play a
couple of different instruments - but admittedly, not particularly
good, either. I'm good at doing new things, including meeting new
people. It's keeping up with the older things, including keeping in
touch, that's sometimes trouble. I also enjoy
traveling,
napping,
Dance Dance Revolution,
and listening to a good story.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a touch on the short side; people seem to like calling me
"little one". I have also consumed a shocking amount of media in my
lifetime (chalk it up to my wasted youth) and tend to talk and
think in those terms...see books, movies, and music.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Food - I love that I live in an area of DC where I can walk to a
great variety of ethnic restaurants and often do. If I had to live
on anything
it would be hummus and
pita. But otherwise I like all kinds.
Authors, movies and music - Michael Chabon, Spellbound, Lily Allen,
Joan Didion, O Brother Where Art Thou (and anything Coen), Michael
Jackson, Boris Pasternak, Control Room, Frou Frou, JM Coetzee,
Heathers, Mark Ronson, Jeanette Winterson, L'Auberge Espagnole,
Ellie Goulding, Lorrie Moore, Pan's Labyrinth, and, okay, L'il
Wayne.*
Good lord, that list makes me sound at least indecisive and
possibly schizophrenic.
*I think I would be remiss not to mention that I am currently
obsessed with Emily Haines/
Metric, and suspect that if I hear the
song Satellite Mind just one more time, all will be right with the
world.
**It turns out that the listening to that song fixing the world
thing didn't work out as I had hoped; world still unfixed. I should
have seen that coming. That plan hasn't worked out in the
past.
Until I regroup, I've been spending some time on blip.fm. So if you
happen to also be on the site by all means look me up, I'm under
the same name.
The six things I could never do without
I am a sucker for the electric window, y'know, the period before
you kiss someone where you're pretty sure that you're going to kiss
them. It comes with a whole host of experiences that are also
great: the warmth, the stupid grin, the good eye contact. And if
it's really good, the honesty that happens in those amazingly rare
moments when someone actually opens up to you, mentally and
physically. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. But just
the connection is always a lovely reminder of one of the nicer
things about being on this planet.
That's six things, isn't it?
On a typical Friday night I am
Dancing or watching Dog Whisperer/sleeping. It's kind of a feast or
famine night for me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Oh, there will have to be drinks for that.
You should message me if
You like going out for dinner, staying in for dinner, and
occasionally drinking and dancing.
Although I rarely rule anything out (which, frankly, makes
answering these questions hard), right now I'm pretty much looking
for women. Most of my friends/life/relationships up to this point
have been straight, and it's part of this effort I'm making to,
well, find something different. Just trying to learn to love the
unanswered questions, on here or in real life.
