I am passionate, affectionate, and irreverent.

My Self-Summary

I love art house theaters like the Inwood in Dallas - one of my favorite places before I even moved to Texas. Good films and good conversation are the best in my book. I love (and support) PBS. If I can get channel 13 on my rabbit ears, I'm good to go, although I do like a little Sci-Fi on the side. You'll find me intelligent and soft-spoken but occasionally I am animated and have a dry wit when relaxed. I'm ready, willing, and able to argue about the things I care about. I'm the kind of person who'll put a bumper sticker on his brand-new car or shoe polish it to express my beliefs. I'm passionate about children's and animal rights and that informs a lot of what I do. Honesty keeps me out of way more trouble than it gets me into. Restaurant or pubs in which you can't hear the other person talk really put me off. I come alive when I connect with someone - perhaps a little too alive.

Tacked on at last moment and not really integrated: I look a fair mount younger than my age, and that sometimes throws people off. Another thing I inherited from my mom is good child-rearing skills. I'm a card-carrying member of the HRC.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now I'm focusing on my family. I come from a small tribe, and I'm enjoying my two older sisters and their families. I'm visiting them in the near future, so I'm busy locating my passport. When I'm not blinking worlds into or out of existence, I am a mild-mannered Systems Administrator.

I’m really good at

Speaking truth to power. Fixing stuff. Making stuff that works work better. Judging a person's character. Judging a person, period. Arranging a space. Boiling water. Making jokes. Making oatmeal. Taking care of someone who deserves it. Playing with kids. Playing with computers. Dancing. Whistling classical music and 80's television theme songs. Petting cats (references available). Putting bugs outside.

The first things people usually notice about me

(Hopefully) intelligence. You might not actually notice me unless: 1. I'm staring at you or 2. You're overhearing or are in a conversation in which I'm involved.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies (that I can remember off hand): Brazil, Magnolia, The Life of Brian, Kill Bill 1 & 2, American Psycho, Bread and Tulips, Let The Right One In, Little Miss Sunshine, Orlando, Secretary (how did I forget that one?), No Country for Old Men.
Food: Thai, Japanese, Indian (vegetarian when possible).
Music: I actually listen to talk radio and news, for better or worse.
Current/recent books: Midnight in Sicily, The Devil We Know, The Israel Lobby, Committed.

The six things I could never do without

Hope.
The Rachel Maddow Show.
Costume Jewelry.
Humor.
Good conversation.
I was kidding about the costume jewelry.
Yoga.
You. (Wherever you are...)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Politics and social injustice.

On a typical Friday night I am

Watching a movie or having a drink with friends; making up my own honey-do list for the weekend (lame, I know).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Some (not enough) of my time and money is spent advocating to protect children from the life-long harms of genital cutting (circumcision). (That's not really a secret; everyone who knows me knows that about me.)

You should message me if

You're open-minded and liberal in thought. You can appreciate a good sense of humor and perhaps be a muse. You're genuine.
