My self-summary
I'm mostly a study in contradictions. I'm equally happy watching football or going to see a musical or play. I like museums.. I've seen everything from modern art to traveling Star Wars exhibits. In fact, one of my favorite things is wandering through the modern art exhibits and making fun of them. (I mean, seriously? Carpet padding tacked to a wall? I could totally do that.) I really enjoy reading, and I'll read just about anything. I love a good local coffee shop as much as a dive bar. I'm generally more of a geek than I'd like to admit.

I love to travel, and have lived in many different places over the years. I've never been to the west coast, though, and I'm hoping to remedy that next year. I'm always looking for a new place to visit.

Oh, and I should point out my name isn't Kaylee. Bonus points if you can figure out why I chose this name.
What I’m doing with my life
I've just started a new job, my dream job, actually. I'm a veterinarian, and the position I just took is something I've been working toward for years.
Oh, I should answer these questions now & get them out of the way: yes, I've always wanted to be a vet, no it's not a 2 year program, it's 4 years of undergrad followed by 4 years of graduate school (just like med school), no I've never wanted to be a human doctor (ick), I don't have a favorite animal (though I really like aardvarks, rhinos, screech owls and all baby animals).
I’m really good at
Listening.
Forgetting my camera, but taking pretty great cell phone photos.
I'm pretty good at making the best out of any situation, and finding interesting things to do.
Baking. I make the best peanut butter cookies in the world. No question.
Singing. I've never done anything big, but I've been in a few choirs, and I love to sing. Alto, for those who care.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. Or maybe my crazy curly hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I could never pick a favorite book! Let see... I love Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (or pretty much everything he's written), Lamb by Christopher Moore, Fear Nothing by Dean Koontz, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... the Harry Potter series, and Shakespeare. I really enjoyed the Hunger Games books.

I love most movies, and I have a weakness for action films. I'll watch any Bond movie, though I prefer Connery. Some of my favorites are Avengers, Hunger Games, Clue, Princess Bride, Star Wars (the originals, of course), Goonies, Hot Fuzz, any Miyazaki film. I like Clint Eastwood better as a cowboy than a cop. I believe Han shot first, Christopher Walken is creepy, Christopher Nolan and Joss Whedon can do no wrong, and no matter what the book was better. My favorite thing to do is watch a new movie then pick it apart. I love it when someone will discuss movies with me.

I have to throw in some TV preferences... if FOX has cancelled it after half a season, I probably love it. Firefly, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Arrested Development... I also watch Doctor Who, Top Gear (UK... it pains me that I have to make the distinction), Psych, Haven (and most of the Sci-Fi Original shows) and way too much House Hunters International. Also, Spaced is one of my favorite shows ever (hooray BBC!)

My music taste varies as much as my mood. I'll listen to almost anything except rap, R&B and country. I tend to listen more to classic and alternative rock and singer-songwriter type indie music. And showtunes. Some selections from my iPod... David Ford, Sick Puppies, Dropkick Murphy's, Jonathan Coulton, and the Les Miserables soundtrack. I was recently introduced to Mumford & Sons, and really enjoy them. My new study music. I also have a growing collection of movie scores.

Food... I like everything! Mexican and Indian is probably my favorite. And dessert. I love to bake, though I'm not much for cooking.
The six things I could never do without
Coffee (or caffeine, to be more accurate. Tea, coffee, whatever)
Passport
Phone (I never know when I'll be called in)
my pets (1 dog in the city with me, 1 cat with my parents in WI)
music (I can't work in silence, I have no idea how people do it)
my family (and the opportunity to escape the city to visit them in the North Woods)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Movies. How I would cast or direct a movie, what's coming out or in development, what I just watched... It may seem silly, but sometimes I think I missed my calling as a producer or critic.

I think about the future a lot. Where will I be in 10 years, will I achieve everything I want to, will I get to travel to all the places I want to go, that sort of thing. I spend time planning where my next trip will be. Usually it's to visit a friend, but I'm hoping for more international travel in the near future...
On a typical Friday night I am
Sitting at home watching TV and playing with my dog. Sometimes out seeing a movie or finding a local dive bar. I used to go to a wine tasting every Friday night with my friends in the last place I lived. I'm just as happy staying in as going out. These days I'm more likely to avoid crowns on the weekends and go out during the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm naturally a quiet, shy sort of person, so I think I come across as aloof sometimes. Really, I'm sometimes afraid that I'm missing out by not being outgoing.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 28–35
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
...any of this interests you. If you like movies, animals, being outdoors, and finding new things to see or do. I'm an easy-going, laid-back sort of person, and I enjoy hanging out with similar people.

On a side note, I live in the North Side, and I don't have a car. So if you live in the suburbs or on the South Side, that makes things difficult. Also, I definitely, absolutely, positively do NOT want kids. So if you're interested in starting a family someday, you're better off finding someone else.
