I am affectionate, optimistic, and light-hearted.

My Self-Summary

I'm open-minded, creative, spontaneous, fun-loving and playful. I'm a good listener and LOVE to laugh.;) I enjoy being kind of silly sometimes, especially early in the morning. (A morning person I am;).) I dig the idea of going out dancing (it always sounds so good...) but I'm usually pretty tired (I get up super early for work and hiking or swimming on the weekends often), but I can rally sometimes. (I used to sing in clubs / for parties long ago and it IS possible for me to stay awake until 2 a.m. but it's been a LONG time...lol.)
I'm very much into fitness and workout regularly; I get to the gym 3 or 5 days a week and the once or twice a week spin class, love swimming at Barton Springs, have practiced yoga for many years including completing specialized training in teaching yoga to folks with heart disease or those at risk for same. I'm a firm believer in the benefits of yoga and meditation; I'm not as regular with meditation lately but I feel a renewal of sorts coming on...:).
My work is in healthcare, Occupational Therapy, mostly geriatrics.
I appreciate people who are fun-loving, caring, are open to trying new things (like restaurants ;), are helpful to others, down-to-earth, funny(!) at times spontaneous, reliable, cooperative, collaborative, take walks, and would go out of their way to meet me for a coffee now and then. I can groove on conversations about the light-hearted and the profound equally. I enjoy the occasional really cold beer or margarita now and then. Did I mention I LOVE dogs? And horses (I used to ride a lot....great memories!) Anything animal related is of interest to me.
Learning new things is fun for me and paramount to enjoying life as an ongoing process, rather than a finished product. I'm taking Spanish classes and intend to make it through to "functional fluency" and...maybe...beyond. ;)
A lot of my "free" time (isn't all time "free?") is spent outdoors with the dog (or in the gym, swimming laps at Barton Springs or relaxing in a good coffee shop. Coffee is one of my favorite food groups, but I try to stick to mostly tea these days. But oh, the tantilizing aroma....!)
I really, really, really want to take/make more time for reading!

What I’m doing with my life

Evolving. Learning to relax more often. Like all the time.

I’m really good at

Asking good questions...Spelling...Singing...Coming up with a song that has the same words, or a phrase, that someone just said in conversation. I guess I listened to a lot of musicals and the like when I was a kid. ;)

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm tall. ;) Also friendly; I usually make conversation very easily and I'm pretty good at putting people at ease.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Restaurants: Fonda San Miguel, Mother's, Kyoto, The Clay Pit, Chuy's.... Music: Brazilian, African, Traditional Folk of Ireland, England; Bluegrass, Western Swing, Big Band; Emmy Lou Harris is a favorite, 80's Rock (yes, really). Hmmmm....need to think on this a bit more... I dig going to movies. I try to stick to story lines that develop characters, are uplifting and / or reveal positive human potential in some way. Fav books: West With the Night by Beryl Markham, for starters. The Power of Now (Tolle)....Read more non-fiction than not; would like to take more time for reading. How to work that out...?

The six things I could never do without

1) My dog, Sandy, who sleeps all day, then springs into "run-like-crazy" mode in 2 seconds or less when she knows it's time to "go." We hike the greenbelt, Red Bud Isle, the hike 'n bike trail and any other great outdoor dog- and people- friendly spaces. 2) Swimming in Barton Springs 3) Having a good gym nearby 4) Casual dinner parties / potlucks and the like with good friends 5) A beautiful beach! A gorgeous sunrise! Travel to islands and other subtropical / tropical places 6) The occasional espresso...and... Free-spirited-ness....good health and good humor...great kisses...;)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Spirituality, staying in the present, how to travel lightly, meaningfully through life, thinking up fun places to go with my dog, how my mom's doing these days (good, btw), how to develop professionally / personally, where I might like to spend several weeks learning Spanish in Latin America or Spain next year; whether or not to make popcorn tonight, how to desensitize my dog so that she's not afraid of cameras...

On a typical Friday night I am

Having a drink with friends after a good, long, sweaty hike or a swim at the Springs. Or watching a movie at home con amigos, tambien. Maybe out to dinner. Something fun, a little bit festive / lively, but not too wild, typically.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

...is too private.
