I am kind, curious, and witty.

My Self-Summary

There's something ultra intimidating about this box.
I am a soon-to-be college graduate (one more semester!) studying art history. I live in an apartment I love in a neighborhood I really like.
My favorite Weezer song is El Scorcho.
I prefer red wine to white.
Currently I work as a nanny.
As convenient as it might be, I refuse to use "text speak."
My 4 year old nephew is probably the coolest person I know.
I cannot dance, but Lord knows I keep trying.
I make a mean chicken parmesan.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm graduating soon from Mills College with my B.A. and am applying for post-graduate programs in museum studies/gallery management. I try to focus on just the goals in front of me, and it seems to work well.
I also recently got into cycling, and am currently training for some long rides in the future.
I work as a nanny, and enjoy it, but it will hopefully just be until I find a "grown-up job" after I graduate.

I’m really good at

sarcasm.
I'm kind of good at cooking.
laughing.
being a good friend.
writing incredibly boring okcupid profiles.
making completely inappropriate jokes.

The first things people usually notice about me

You'd have to ask them.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My favorite writers are David Sedaris, Chuck Klosterman, Steve Martin, Malcolm Gladwell. I prefer non-fiction books, like memoirs and histories. Other favorite books: Middlesex, American Psycho, Fahrenheit 451, High Fidelity, Rosemary's Baby. I enjoy reading in general, but I have a bad habit of starting multiple books at once and then not finishing them. my bad.

movies: My favorite movie is Rushmore, and I really like all Wes Anderson movies. I also dig the Cohen brothers, david lynch, documentaries! and really bad comedies. Also, all the Christopher Guest movies (best in show, waiting for gauffman, etc)

TV: arrested development was the best thing that ever happened to tv. The Office, 30 Rock, Dexter, Mad Men, Daily Show, The State, Curb Your Enthusiasm. I've been getting into Parks and Recreation too.

music: The Weakerthans, Lucero, Steve Earle, propagandhi, nofx, death cab for cutie, Less Than Jake, Elvis Costello, mad caddies, Saves The Day, assorted ska and punk-rock stuff. Recently I've been getting into Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Deer Tick, James Brown, and Why.

Food: whatever, I'll try anything and don't really consider myself a picky eater. Except I don't like shellfish or mushrooms. And I love Mexican food. and thai food.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

It's overwhelming to think about how much there is out there to learn. I like thinking about where I would go if I could travel anywhere. I also like to come up with new terms for crazy, like "banana pancakes."

On a typical Friday night I am

grabbing some beers with friends, maybe playing darts or pool, at a show, at the movies or babysitting my nephew. Maybe just drinking some wine and cooking dinner with a friend at my apartment. I'm not a crazy party animal, so you won't often find me at a crowded club or giant house party, but that's cool sometimes.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Two things:
1. I went to Shakespeare camp when I was 13. And I loved it.
2. I rock out to Bon Jovi, and not infrequently.

You should message me if

anything about my profile seemed interesting, or just if you want to make a new friend in Oakland.
