My self-summary
I am a lifelong New Yorker. I think in general that I am intelligent, fun to be around, and enjoy meting people from all walks of life.
What I’m doing with my life
Acting in all different sorts of things (as of late more commercial stuff, and some cable tv). I did something for Motorola recently, as well as some skits for a cable/internet network a few weeks prior to that. I am currently working on an internet-based project with a Japanese crew that was partially filmed in may and the rest during a month in the spring which should be very good. My agent seems to be more proactive than usual which is great. Weirdly, I seem to be getting more bookings than ever despite the whole economy having gone down the tubes.
I’m really good at
I have become quite good at cooking over the years. I just bought a huge, enameled cast iron dutch oven which I am stoked about. I think I am good at what I do provided I am motivated and consummate about it. I think I am a good listener, though I may have a tendency to be too honest with people. Some people may say that is a tact issue, but I contend most people are probably over-sensitized to solid opinions in this age of ridiculous levels of political correctness. I have a talent for going on long walks in NYC with no set game plan and turning it into a fun day. I used to be ok at ice hockey until my body decided to betray me. I like powerlifting, and have been kind of going at it for the last three weeks after taking a few months off for the first time in many years. I am good at adapting to a lot of tasks. I think most people have that capacity, it's just a question of not being afraid of the unfamiliar and having a willingness to learn.
The first things people usually notice about me
It used to be the longer, curly hair, but I trimmed it down as of late to something more tame, albeit curly all the same. For those who always ask why I cut it, it is exponentially easier for me to book jobs with shorter hair. I guess my sense of humor. This is a very hard question to answer b/c it involves how others are perceiving you..... If it gives any insight, in the busy streets of NYC, I always seem to be the guy ppl come after for directions (which is funny, because I absolutely suck at giving directions), or the guy panhandlers home in for to ask for money, and like every member of the domesticated animal kingdom in NYC seems to love me, so I am giving off some sort of positive vibes (I think?).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite food is probably well-made Latin food. Things like oxtails or goat stew are wonderful. Indian food is up there as well. I love fish, I practically live off of it for the most part. My biggest trigger food is easily good cheese. Easily.... Most hated food is easy-cantaloupe, it tastes like fruity vomit to me. I like authentic Chinese food, but am really turned off on Americanized Chinese food lately. Big fan of chicken mole. As far as movies, I love Kubrick and Herzog films. Being a child of the 80s and early 90s, I do love overblown action films from that era. Being There is another movie I quite like. As far as music, I like a variety of things from 70s punk, classic rock, to 90s alt music, to more stripped down stuff. I really like Queen, Nirvana, Oasis, and The La's. I know a lot of people hate on Oasis, but I think they are making a blanket judgement based on what idiots they are and not the music itself. I love Syd Barrett and Tim Buckley. I also have a soft spot for all of that synthesizer-based pop music from the 1980s. As far as books go, my favorites tend to be non-fiction historical works. BTW, the not at all to the drinking thing doesn't mean I am uptight about people drinking around me or that if I have a sip of something I will be hiding beers in my toilet tank to keep them chilled in three days flat. Nothing like that at all, I just tend to not drink at all if left to my own devices. If I'm alone, if my insomnia is acting up more than usual, I may break trend and have one, but other than that, it's the truth.. It isn't some deep personal decision, or some social statement that I will not deviate from under any condition no matter how awkward it makes a situation.. So I am not going to be some weirdo who is coming off as a recovering alcoholic or anti-social in front of your friends or family... It has come up in messages a ridiculous number of times...
The six things I could never do without
Occasional quiet time-you need that when you live in the city.
My stove-I like to cook
My phone-I hate cell phones, but it is a necessity for me. I just ordered some fancy new thing from Nokia, so it may change my mind slightly once I get it.
A functional toilet-Practicality wins out here
Old-fashioned double edge razors-Seriously, if you have to shave a lot, you could buy a space shuttle in three months flat with the money you save...
My computer, unfortunately...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
History-I was a history major and still really enjoy learning new things. You can learn so much about people in general from the study of history. Ways to advance my career. Politics, though I am kind of over it given the hamster wheel things seem to be on. Wondering where everyone's manners have gone in NYC (I am one of those people who holds doors, etc and find fewer people thank you or they give you a look like you have ten heads... It's a downer). If someone is 71% your friend and 14% your enemy, does that mean the other 15% is gross indifference? General nonsense.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately, the answer to that would be in the gym doing a leg workout because it is less crowded with people out and about doing whatever, so I can work out properly. Whether my being there on a Friday night is a positive or negative is up to your perception. I do look better for it, though.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I was in law school for like a week a thousand years ago before I came to my senses. I get a lot of questions about this too. There is no great story to tell besides it was a moment of clarity where I was honest with myself that while I could intellectually do that job, I would hate it. I don't regret it at all, really. Everyone I know who is a lawyer is patently miserable for the most part.
