My self-summary
I’m originally from Aberdeen in Scotland. I love to explore new cities and the outdoors, I have a tonne of places I’d love to visit while I’m in Australia.

I lived in Brighton, UK for five years. I left England for the winter, came to Australia to visit friends and stayed.

I’m a Software Engineer and work remotely from wherever takes my fancy, so long as it has an Internet connection. I typically have a stack of books that I’m trying to work through, and I’m always buying and starting new ones faster than I can finish the ones I already have.

Sports and training are a big part of my life. I’m into rock climbing, bouldering and strength training. I enjoy travelling to new places to climb and the interesting people you meet along the way.

I travel regularly, last year I went somewhere new every two out of three months on average. This year I’m looking to spend a little more time in one place.

I’m always trying to learn, fix or improve something at home or at work.
What I’m doing with my life
I lived in Brighton for five years but left looking for somewhere with more mountains and sunshine. I’ve landed in Melbourne for the time being, it doesn’t really meet the mountains requirement, but they’d close enough to drive to.

Right now I’m mostly interested in climbing around the world and would love to meet someone who’d like to join me on my travels.

Working for a software company I get to solve new problems every day and work with talented colleagues that challenge me.
I’m really good at
Problem solving, analysing complex systems, taking things apart and (usually) putting them back together.

Picking debate topics or recalling stories that go on for ages, without any meaningful conclusion.

Learning the rules to new games. I’m trying to get good at the boardgame Go. I love to spend an evening playing a couple of games and discussing the events of the week.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m a quiet listener, who likes to hear what you’ve got to say first while considering my own opinion.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I mostly read sci-fi; Ian M. Banks is easily my favourite author. The Algebraist and Excession would be my top picks. I’ve recently started reading Neil Stephenson and Alastair Reynolds.

The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar – basically anything by Christopher Nolan. Up, The Social Network, 500 days of Summer, Primer.

House, Boston Legal, Grey’s Anatomy, Dr Who, Sherlock, Modern Family, House of Cards, Orange is the new Black, Archer, Game of Thrones.

Robyn, The Sounds, Dragonette, Daft Punk, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Vampire Weekend, Shiny Toy Guns, CSS, Hans Zimmer.

Pizza and garlic bread. Really, really good fish, nowhere comes close to how good we can get it back home in Aberdeen, fresh caught and fried that day. I also love steak and Japanese wagu in particular when I can afford it.
The six things I could never do without
• Books
• Laptop
• Something to play my music on and plenty of music to play
• Coffee
• Climbing
• Friends to enjoy the above with (FaceTime has been invaluable for keeping up with everyone back home)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My work, I’ll typically be absorbed in a single problem unable to move on before I solve it. I also love to talk about it and sound ideas out.

Then what I’m going to do next, my next project, my next adventure, planning my next trip.
On a typical Friday night I am
Trying to decide which movie to rent, though I’ll usually just watch the trailer then read the plot on Wikipedia, instead of actually watching the film.

Training or already recovering from the training of the week prior.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Nothing. Deal with it.
You should message me if
You’d like to do something one evening or at the weekend.

You’re looking for a climbing or mountaineering partner.
