I am tall, reserved, and weird.

My Self-Summary

I have to think about how to summarize myself in only a few sentences. I'm a very eclectic and yet very mainstream person. My tolerance range is wide for personalities and yet my preferences run toward the moderate.

What does that even mean? Gah, it's "profile-speak"...

I like sci-fi but don't go to conventions. I like computers and gadgetry but don't often buy stuff. I'm not a fashion plate by any stretch. I like good food but am not a gourmet (gourmand?). I like movies, and I like to make snide comments about films while watching them. I like most kinds of music if it's well-executed and not hackneyed.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm working in state government, as an aerial photographer. It's an interesting job, with lots of obscure skills involved. It has its 'ups and downs', too. Was that not corny enough?

Anyway, it means I travel a fair amount for work, but it's only within the state, and I stay up in the air, land only for fuel and stuff, and get back to the office by the end of the day.

I don't fly the plane: I run the camera. It's a great camera when it's not acting up. You may be impressed with a 20 megapixel camera, but the images I take are 135 megapixels. Just one uncompressed image takes up more than half a CD.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at stuff involving brain work. Me brain good. I get bored easily once I've solved the latest intellectual challenge, though, and want to move on.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm tall, and due to the way my body is built, I'm especially tall when I'm sitting down. That is, my body from the hips up is quite long. The next thing people notice is probably my weight, though I carry it well, and my actual mass is considerably greater than my body's shape gives away. After that would be my eyes.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Wow, there are so many. Books, I prefer SF, specifically Heinlein, but will read lots of nonfiction and the occasional mystery. Movies, I prefer SF and romantic comedies, but will watch just about anything that's not horror. Music? It's easier to list what I don't like to listen to: twangy country & western, thrash metal, hardcore gangsta rap, and pretty much anything else where the point is to make noise rather than music. Food? Don't even get me started. Have you not seen my profile pictures? Do you think those are pictures of a picky eater? I will say, though, that my favorites are Italian and East Asian.

The six things I could never do without

1. Water 2. Food 3. Shelter 4. Tolerance 5. Intelligence 6. Humor

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I try to avoid that. As a civil servant, thinking is not expected, encouraged, nor condoned. ;)

More realistically, I spend a lot of time thinking about creative projects that never seem to take shape. They never SEEM to, but when I take stock, I find that I do finish things, sometimes.

On a typical Friday night I am

At home, either checking my email or watching TV. It's mostly my night to veg and sleep in the next morning. My nights out tend to be Saturday or Sunday. I tend to be pretty useless at work on Monday mornings.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a mild fetish (mild in the sense that it doesn't interfere with more mainstream sexuality) involving balloons.

You should message me if

You should message me if you don't want to.

I mean, what's up with all the people who say "if you want to" -- I say, message me specifically if you DON'T want to. Much more interesting conversations come from people who are not initially romantically interested in you. When you want someone, you're tripping over your tongue, trying to impress but also trying not to say the wrong thing. Eff that.
