I am intelligent, optimistic, and imaginative.
My Self-Summary
I like
roleplaying games,
movies, and
square dancing, among many
other activities. I think
Burning Man and
WorldCon are two of the best
events ever. I like a lot of different kinds of
music, from
Mozart to
Madonna,and from
country western to
rap, and am particularly
enchanted by
tuned wind chimes,
carillon choirs,
and
barbershop harmony. I'm
Libertarian
and
agnostic;
apatheist, really. I tend to think the best of people, and I can
hold a grudge for about fifteen minutes.
I'm polyamorous but not a swinger; I'm not in any primary
relationship but would like to find one -- I'd like to be first on
someone's list and vice-versa for a change, though I realize that
chemistry doesn't grow on trees and don't have to jump in the deep
end (how's that for a mixed metaphor?).
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a Roving Do-Gooder. Retired on disability -- stable, ambulatory
MS (
multiple sclerosis);
reasonable disability payments from Sun Microsystems so I'm not
destitute; helping wherever I can.
I’m really good at
Spelling and the English
language in general -- its musical
qualities as well as its structure and usage. Please let me
proofread for you; the spell checker hasn't been written that does
better, and it helps me feel useful (see "Roving Do-Gooder" above).
QA (
quality
assurance) -- it used to be a job; now it's an avocation -- it
always was, I guess. Interrupt me if I start trying to fix
something that's not broken enough to bother.
Singing, or so some people tell me
(at least when I'm in voice); I know an impressive number of song
lyrics -- a huge library with no card catalog. Thinking of
innovative solutions to problems.
The first things people usually notice about me
Before I open my mouth? Standard stuff -- gender, race, height,
dress (casual/comfortable), hair (not as long as fashionable, and
often disheveled). As soon as I start talking, I'm told it takes
about three sentences to notice friendly, intelligent, outgoing,
and opinionated (it may take a few more to suss out that I'm not
wed to most of my opinions and am actually quite open-minded). Oh,
and I give really good hug.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Just a few of each, randomly selected: Favorite books (A):
A Wrinkle
In Time,
Jonathan Livingston
Seagull, and
The Moon Is A Harsh
Mistress. Favorite movies (B):
Gentlemen Prefer
Blondes,
1776,
and the
Lord
of the Rings trilogy. Favorite music (C):
Enya,
Madonna, and
Kool Moe Dee. Favorite foods (D):
pizza,
cheesecake, and
oatmeal with brown
sugar. Many more of each, and I love to try new things.
The six things I could never do without
Besides food, clothing, shelter, air. water, and light: physical
things -- my
MacBook Pro,
ComCast broadband
Internet, my
Camry wagon, my
Treo 650 (I may want an Android
soon),
Netflix,
and my
Garmin Nuvo 660 GPS;
non-physical things -- love, laughter, affection, friendship,
compassion, and the ability to challenge arbitrarily imposed
limits.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the future.
Relationships and
communication. How I can
make or fix things.
Email -- it takes me a long time to write, not just because I type
slowly, but because I rewrite and rewrite, doing my best to
eliminate sources of misunderstanding/ambiguity that crop up when
handicapped by lack of sensory feedback. I fight perfectionism --
stop me before I tweak again!
On a typical Friday night I am
at a
party, at a
movie, or at
home relaxing with my
laptop or a
video, alone or with
a friend. If I'm alone and someone calls or writes with a better
offer -- I can get downright spontaneous. Contact me!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Even though MS is a real pain, I'm sometimes glad of the excuse not
to push myself harder (sometimes I do anyway). And the disabled
placard is handy for parking and not having to stand in line at the
amusement park.
You should message me if
you still want to get to know me better after seeing my home page
(kennita dot com) -- it needs updating, but it's basically right.
