Novels by
H.
P. Lovecraft,
Frank Herbert. Many fantasy
writers, like
R. A. Salvatore. Reading has an
on / off relationship with me, I usually read more during
summertime.
Movies that have a
fantasy,
sci-fi,
historical or a
war theme are commonly my favourites.
There aren't in any particular order:
The Lord of the Rings
trilogy,
Braveheart,
Indiana Jones movies,
Alien movies &
Prometheus,
Star Wars episodes I to
VI (although IV to VI are the best of the bunch),
Star Trek movies,
The Matrix trilogy,
Stargate,
Kingdom of
Heaven,
1492 - Conquest of
Paradise,
Ninth
Gate,
Close Encounters
of the Third Kind,
Fire from the Sky,
Saving Private
Ryan,
Downfall,
Dune,
Leon,
WALL-E,
Blade Runner,
The Last
Starfighter,
Jurassic Park,
Schindler's List,
2001: A Space Odyssey,
God and
Generals,
Talvisota,
Ghostbusters,
300,
Die Hard movies,
Eyes Wide Shut,
Fight Club,
Conan - The
Barbarian,
The Devil's Rejects,
Kill Bill
movies,
Interview with a
Vampire,
Bram Stoker's Dracula,
Seven
Samurai,
13
Assassins,
Hara-kiri (the original one),
Legend,
The Dark Crystal,
The
Last Starfighter, literally too many to mention. I'll watch
anything that's written well and has a good plot, so I'm not picky.
Artsy movies never fail to stir up something in my soul, like
Lars von
Trier's
Melancholia.
The Hobbit,
Skyfall,
Oblivion,
Iron Man 3 and
Warm Bodies ranged from decent to
brilliant, I went to see them recently in a theater.
My favourite shows right now are
The Walking Dead,
Vikings,
Hannibal,
Defiance,
Game of Thrones,
Dexter and
Breaking Bad. Close runner-ups
are
Sons of
Anarchy,
Hell on Wheels and
Falling Skies.
True Blood too,
but I don't feel as strongly about it anymore. Who can forget
The
X-files...
Northern Exposure was and
still is a truly heartwarming show.
Star Trek has had me hooked since The
Next Generation, all the way through to Enterprise. The original
series didn't appeal to me as much as the newer shows. Some
trekkies discriminate against
Star Wars fans, but I love both
universes, there's no real need to pit them against each other.
Oz,
Babylon 5,
Battlestar Galactica,
Jericho and
Firefly, not to be
forgotten.
The
Sopranos was a brilliant series, but the ending... I still have
mixed feelings about it.
Boardwalk Empire really
captures the feel of the prohibition era.
The Tudors and
The Borgias, enjoyed both greatly. I
often times watch some anime, series like
Neon Genesis
Evangelion,
Ghost in
the Shell: Stand-alone Complex,
Samurai Champloo,
Bunny Drop,
Macross Frontier,
Cowboy Bebop,
Hellsing,
Hellsing OVA,
Monster,
Death Note,
Planetes. Some anime
movies I want to mention:
Akira,
Spirited Away,
Porco Rosso,
Macross -
Do You Remember Love?,
The Secret World of
Arrietty,
Howl's Moving
Castle.
What I mostly listen to is hard rock, pop (mainstream, finnish and
sometimes j-pop or k-pop), soundtracks and classical. Rap isn't my
thing, if I had to mention something I dislike. To name a few of my
favourite artists:
Madonna,
Nightwish,
Jenni Vartiainen,
Metallica,
Kotiteollisuus,
Scandinavian Music
Group,
Ultra
Bra,
Chisu,
HIM,
Lynyrd Skynyrd,
Mozart,
Bach,
Vivaldi. I'm not one of those people who
must have music playing in the background at all times. When I do
listen to music, I devulge all of my concentration to it, to fully
enjoy and appreciate the music.
Some of my favourite board games:
Arkham Horror,
7 Wonders (just got the
expansions, which were painfully expensive, grr.),
Kingdom Builder,
Descent: Journeys in
the Dark,
Twilight Imperium,
Smallworld,
Elder Sign,
Muchkin,
Alias,
Scrabble.
PC games:
Skyrim,
Fallout series
(all of them),
Civilization series,
XCOM: Enemy
Unknown,
Baldur's Gate series,
Dragon Age series,
Mass Effect
series,
SimCity
series,
Master
of Orion series,
Europa Universalis III,
Victoria II,
Hearts of
Iron series,
World of Warcraft (used to
play),
Lord of the Rings
Online (used to play),
Rift (used to play),
Star Wars: The Old
Republic (used to play),
EVE Online (used to). MMOs eat up a
huge chunk of your free time, I've
tried to avoid them for
some time now. A friend lured me in to
Guild Wars 2, but I haven't logged
in for a while now.
Steam has tons of great indie games, like
FTL,
Don't Starve,
10.000.000,
Terraria. I also enjoy
roguelike games (who needs graphics?), like
Dwarf Fortress,
Cataclysm: Dark
Days Ahead (zombie survival roguelike, try it!),
Angband,
ADOM etc.
When it comes to food, I'm not very skittish, I usually try
everything. Schnitzels are pretty high on my list. Pan pizzas @
Napoli, heavenly. I don't prefer seafood, unless it's tuna or
smoked salmon. Super spicy foods upset my stomach.
I'm a social drinker, so I don't sit around at home drinking.
Somersby ciders, Jägermeister shots, long drinks, gin and tonic, I
usually order those.
