My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I like trying new things, traveling to new places and enjoying life in general. I do my best to be understanding and compassionate toward people, which lends to me having a "nice guy" vibe. I guess I am a "nice guy" but don't get me wrong, I'm not a chump. There's only so much nonsense I'm willing to put up with.

I tend to be pretty even-tempered and level with my emotions. My 100% happy probably isn't as high as other people's 100% happy, but on the other hand my 100% sad isn't as bad as other people's, so it all balances out.

As for what I'm looking for, I want someone who is intelligent. I won't dismiss anyone just because their online grammar is less than scholarly, but the person behind the screen has to have some brains. I like women with a bit of sass and know when to stand up for themselves.

I'd like to meet someone who is open-minded and willing to try new things (say she's not into sci-fi but there's a book I just know she'll love and she'll actually read it). Someone who can be supportive and understanding of my interests even if they don't like what I like. A good sense of humor is always a plus, not just someone who can make me laugh but will laugh—or at least smile—at the puns and corny jokes I will make. I do enjoy a bit of cynicism and sarcasm (more of a garnish than the main course). Some nerdiness in her interests is always a plus. Mutual inspiration, that's a biggie. I'd like to be a better person for having known her and hopefully vice versa.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have a part-time job teaching anthropology online. In the summers I work for the National Park Service and get to live in new and beautiful places.

I've moved around a lot over the past few years and would like to set down some roots in the Boston area.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
writing, conversation, listening, photography, martial arts (aikido, jujitsu and a bit of MMA) and dancing (ballroom and rhythm, that is. But I'm not bad at the normal stuff either).

I picked up flintknapping (making arrowheads out of rocks) a couple summers ago. I'm no artisan, but I can make weapons out of window glass. I'd like to think that makes me more likely to survive the zombie apocalypse apparently everyone on this site is preparing for.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I look like someone else they know.
They also tend to notice I'm smart. Or at least that I give off a smart vibe— which is sometimes a problem because people think I'm smarter than I actually am.
They'll also notice I'm not the arrogant ass that last part makes me sound like.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Favorite books are usually sci-fi. My favorite author is Peter Watts, with my favorite books of all time being his Rifters trilogy and Blindsight. Other books include Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, Raptor Red by Robert T. Bakker, Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima, The ABZ Book by Shel Silverstein, In Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio Phillipe Bourgois, A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again by David Foster Wallace, Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss

Favorite movies (in no particular order): Robocop, Spider-Man, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Dr. Strangelove, Ong Bak, Batman Begins, Transformers, Love Actually, Iron Man, Eurotrip, Stargate, The Matrix, 10 Things I Hate About You, The 40 year Old Virgin, The Descent, Angel-A

Favorite music: I have a rather eclectic taste in music but see, unlike most people who say "I like everything", I'll be good enough to provide specifics: Classic rock, hard rock, industrial and some indie are my favorite genres. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Leonard Cohen, Mozart, kidneythieves, Splashdown, Coldplay, REM, Hello Saferide, kent, Sahara Hotnights, Lykke Li, Sofia Jannok (10 points if you know who she is)

Favorite food: Indian, Thai and Spanish. I like spicy and strong flavors. Though it doesn't have to be all international—who doesn't like well made pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs?
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Since they sneakily changed this from "Six things I could never live without" I will amend my list.
-Computer (with internet access)
-Cell phone
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I'll always be an anthropologist, so I think about human nature, different cultures and what makes people the way they are. The little patterns you see in profiles on OKCupid are of particular interest to me lately.

I also sometimes think about what I would do in a bar fight. What? You don't?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hanging out with friends, either out for drinks or staying in to watch a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I keep fortune cookie fortunes in my wallet so I can check to see if they came true a few months down the line.
