Hello, internet!

I'm going into my third year as a comparative lit major and I have no ambition to be a writer, though I do like them. My elective concentration in lit is gender studies, so I can also talk your ear off about sociology. I have a lot of feelings. I enjoy good conversations. I will talk philosophy or great literature with you; I will also talk about emoticons and how it's really awkward when you're at the movie theater and the ticket guy says "enjoy the movie" and you say "you too" even though he's not seeing it.

Though I don't necessarily identify myself with these terms, my actions and thoughts are consistent with fluid sexual identity (some might use the term pansexual), non-monogamy (some might use the term poly-- I don't, but you can, if you want), and sex-positive feminism. If these things confuse or bother you, I would be more than happy to talk to you anyway! But you probably won't want to date me. :)

I value knowledge for its own sake, but I only appreciate pedantry if it doesn't take itself too seriously. The social norms of academics are too hilarious not to poke fun at now and then, and I have few internal censors.

I'm starting my third (and possibly final-- I'm trying to graduate early) year of college in Ohio, and will eventually get my BA, and graduate. I would love to go to grad school, because I like school (yeah, I'm one of those). But we'll see.

I want to work in publishing. I interned for a literary journal in Oregon over the summer and now I'm assisting the acquisitions editor at a press in Ohio for the year.

Besides that, I'm doing everything I can; personal growth requires me to get out of my comfort zone! I'd really like to try parasailing. If you can hook this up I totally want to know you.

Won't it be more exciting for you to figure this out yourself? Yes! Yes it will.

I hope that what people notice about me-- and I have no real life corroboration for this-- is that I have a definite and confident presence when I move through the world.

My all time favorite book is Lolita and I could extol its virtues for a while. Other books I absolutely love are Catch-22, The Handmaid's Tale, Life of Pi, and The Kite Runner. Books I have read lately that I have enjoyed intensely: The Time-Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, Dreams of Trespass by Fatima Mernissi, No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.
My current literary project is chronologically reading the works of Toni Morrison.
I read and enjoy poetry. My list of favorite poets is long. My all-time favorite poem is probably Snow and Dirty Rain by Richard Siken.
I hate Chuck Palahniuk. I don't mind if you don't, but I really do.

My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption. I know a little bit about movies but they're not a hobby of mine and I've missed a lot of the important ones.
But, if you are capable of watching WALL-E and not finding it completely enthralling and adorable, you're not someone I want to get to know. (Also, possibly, not human.)

I have a lot of favorite music. It veers mostly toward indie/alternative but also pays homage to my childhood and is chock full of crappy pop. Apparently this section is really important to some people? I can provide specificity, but that assumes you care more than I think you do.

I'm afraid of rejection.

My iTunes playlist on random just came up with the Captain Planet theme song. I sang along, and enjoyed myself. (Bonus: I always accidentally sing the planeteers' names as "earth, fire, wind, water, rock" because those are all Pokemon types. The correct fifth one is "heart".)

If I had the option to change one thing about myself, I would want to be braver and less inhibited.

I can't watch the video for the song "First Day of my Life" by Bright Eyes without crying.

Oh yeah, and sometimes I read celebrity gossip despite my stated preference for highbrow culture.

I am a happy, wonderful and complete person all by myself, and as such I am not searching for a long-term relationship. If you're looking for a monogamous relationship, someone to complete you, or someone to settle down with, you're wasting your time.

I dislike and am disdainful of dating and all its related conventions. Fair warning.
