Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a New England native but came to the great state of Texas for a
college education. I moved to Miami for a few years, but hurried
back to Houston as quickly as I could. I absolutely love this city
and can't wait to re-explore it. The diversity, food, weather,
friendly people, and coffee shops of Houston have won my heart.
Well.... Those things and the pursuit of exellence in my own little
niche of the Ed reform movement.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm teaching in a low- income, traditionally low-performing middle
school. 99 minutes out of 100, my students drive me up a wall, but
that last one percent of the time, they're hilarious and insightful
and push me to understand parts of myself that I've never
previously encountered. When school is over for the day and I'm not
lesson planning/ grading/ calling parents/ obsessively telling
stories of the hilarity that ensues when you're surrounded by
hormonal 13 year olds all day, I'm usually trying to pick up some
hobby (cooking, gardening, blogging) that I subsequently drop in my
pursuit of having a transformational classroom. My big goal for
myself for this year is to actually stick with one of those
hobbies, because I actually do like doing them! I greatly admire
people who are dedicated to some sort of personal hobby/ pursuit,
regardless of what it actually is.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Breaking awkward silences, hearing other people's stories, crossing
the street (not joking about that... It's a northeastern thing I
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Pillars of the Earth, Mean Girls, Rent, Hairspray, HIMYM, New Girl,
Modern Fam, any and all country music, top 40. My tastes in all
types of media are heinously embarrassing, and I've been told
countless times that they're the tastes of a 13 year old, braces
wearing teenie bopper. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Asking me to pick my favorite food is like asking a mother to pick
between children. It's just too hard. But if you twisted my arm,
I'd probably say mac and cheese. I love trying new foods (but
doesn't everyone say that?) If you can get me to love or at least
understand the appeal of burning your taste buds off with spicy
foods, I'll be forever indebted to you.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My gold piece necklace from my grandma, something to read, my mom
(duh), intellectual stimulation, my students, Drake. (Bonus: hours
long heart to hearts and the website Jezebel).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Social justice, if I am making any iota of a difference in the
challenging lives of my incredible students, my family, what I'm
going to have for dinner, what it means to truly be happy or kind
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Heading out of my classroom around 4, hitting an outdoor happy
hour, thinking about how I can best get to know the city this
weekend. I am most likely not clubbing, unless I am in a rare
INEEDTODANCE mood or I've been dragged there by my roommate. I
prefer bars where there's lots of conversation and new friendships

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You want to do outdoorsy things like kayaking and paddle boarding,
you're craving intellectual conversation, you are just a bit
sarcastic, you can actually write a grammatically correct and
coherent couple of sentences, and you're willing to try anything
once! Oh-- it wouldn't hurt if you're a little bit quirky and have
a positive outlook on most things :)
But please, for the love of God, do not message me something like
"Hi, I'm so and so. Nice to meet you. How are you doing?"
