My self-summary
I'm strong, independent and self-sufficient - sometimes too much so for my own good, so here I am. I can wire my own stereo system, fix a running toilet and install my own lighting fixtures. But I still love having a door held for me, being told I look nice, and yes, I even like to hold hands with the right man. Just because I don't need you to take care of me doesn't mean I don't need you. I love my life. I love my job. I don't think there's anything wrong with living to work if you love what you do. I'm a fantastic cook, used to be a professional. I'm addicted to the theatre, reading, art, live music and good food. My sister is my best friend, although she hated me when we were kids. i believe in unconditional love. I am politically passionate, and have been know to throw a bake sale to raise money for things I believe in. I also love a good protest. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are two of my regular news sources. When I grow up, I want to be a published fiction writer and a professional photographer. Smart and funny are extremely sexy to me. I cannot possibly date a man who doesn't make me laugh so hard I can't breathe.
What I’m doing with my life
I finally moved to New York five years ago after dreaming of it since I was eight years old. I was living in San Francisco and wrote a second bar exam to get here, and I've never regretted a single moment. I wish I had done it sooner. I'm a litigator - but I'll try not to cross-examine you until the second date.
I’m really good at
Cooking, my job, listening, laughing, dancing, spelling, grammar, throwing parties, and holding my liquor.
The first things people usually notice about me
My laugh. My sister and mother have the same laugh too. It's loud and rather infectious.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm a voracious reader - I always have a book on the go, and a pile lined up to get to. Currently reading Solar by Ian McEwan. Vonnegut is one of my favourite writers (that's not a spelling error - I'm Canadian). Along with Chuck Palahniuk, Richard Price, Timothy Findley, Jonathan Lethem, Margaret Atwood, Steinbeck, Philip Roth...the list goes on...
Favourite movies - GoodFellas, The Philadelphia Story, The Godfather I and II, Raging Bull to name a few. Anything by the Coen brothers, or Wes Andersen, Michael Haneke, Atom Egoyen, Almodovar, Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, totally dig film noir. ok, and Wedding Crashers. And I admit I love a good RomCom -
TV: The Wire (greatest show ever), the Sopranos, 30 Rock, Seinfeld, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, although that's a been love-hate relationship over the seasons, Justified, True Blood (I admit it), Game of Thrones, WKRP and yes, Project Runway.
Music: Afro funk, afro beat, reggae, old school rap and hip hop, punk, ska, rock, jazz - okay, anything but country! I even love going to the opera.
Food: I'll eat anything but Ethiopian. It's a texture thing. Favs: uni. foie gras. fried bologna on challah. Ontario peaches. sashimi (although I try not to eat so much these days with the depletion of the earth's oceans and all that) a bagel with nova, cream cheese, spanish onion and tomato. Pork anything. pastrami on rye with sauce from Katz's deli - in Toronto. And big bloody hunk of really good beef.
The six things I could never do without
champagne
music
books
friends
my cats
a comfortable bed, preferably not empty.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The political and moral mess our country is in. That, and why the fuck the Kardashians are famous.
On a typical Friday night I am
either home enjoying the peace and quiet, recovering from my week, or out with friends having cocktails and dinner, unwinding.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I already did - I love a good RomCom.
