My self-summary
Alternatively silly and serious, passionate in so many ways about so many things, adroit conversationally and always looking to find new things to be interested in. I'd like to find people to hang out with, talk to about whatever's on our respective minds and have fun. Kind of a nerd, but also a sports fan, comfortable at a gallery opening or a punk rock show...I try to be as well-rounded as I can be.
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to experience as much of life and the world as I can with finite resources of time and money while hopefully leaving the world a better place than I found it.
I’m really good at
Textual criticism, particularly film. Finding something funny in nearly any situation. Answering the questions on Jeopardy! before the contestants do. Singing with duende. Trying most anything once. Terrible, terrible puns. TURBOPUNS. Keeping up with you conversationally.
The first things people usually notice about me
Usually it's my excellent hats, but those are atop me. So, I'll go with eyes, dimples, voice...that's what I'm told. My humor not too long after that. When I decide to do so, I grow a magnificent and mighty beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
None of these should be considered a comprehensive listing.

Films: Vertigo, Rear Window, Shadow of a Doubt, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lost in Translation, Pulp Fiction, The Warriors, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, The Graduate, Night of the Demon, No Country for Old Men, Rock and Roll High School, Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Streets of Fire, The Princess Bride, The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Music: The Who, Van Morrison, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Damned, Prince, David Bowie, Counting Crows, The Decemberists, Pixies, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, The Ramones, Talking Heads, New Order, Iron & Wine, La Roux, Metric, The Knife, LCD Soundsystem, Florence + the Machine.

Books: The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, really anything by John Le Carre, Lolita, "The Myth of Sisyphus", "No Exit", Shopgirl, In Cold Blood, Tao te Ching, The Ethical Slut.

Food: I'm a sucker for Mexican, though as fall and winter rolls around traditional pub-style comfort foods start getting tastier! BBQ is good all year round.

Games: Beyond Good & Evil, Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, Out of the Park Baseball, Dragon Age, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Harvest Moon 64, Katamari Damacy, Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, The Walking Dead (Telltale Games), The Wolf Among Us, Psychonauts, Minecraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Saints Row IV, Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect, Portal, Portal II (I <3 GlaDOS!).

Roller derby is not a book, movie, music or food but it is something that rocks my socks. I love baseball - not so much a single team so much as the game itself. I bliss out on baseball.
The six things I could never do without
I know there's never been a time when I was truly so desperate that I had only the essentials left. But here's six things I'd really miss:

1. Passion
2. Warm water for bathing/showering
3. My contacts/glasses
4. Conversation
5. Humor
6. Some music playing machine and a copy of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Art, particularly film. I am very interested in the cinema as both art and entertainment. I am also into music, though my depth of knowledge here is much less than film. I often question whether I am truly living the most authentic life I could be. I contemplate sometimes why we do not live in a softer world, and what I can do to make the world more so.
On a typical Friday night I am
It's hard to say what a "typical" Friday might be. Could be going to see a new movie, dining out, going to a concert, hanging out at a local pub and talking about whatever gets talked about, going to an art opening...or it could be staying home, watching movies or playing games with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am a car singer, and if we're singing together, I'm apt to take the high harmony part.
You should message me if
I'm looking for friends and who knows what else. I am not looking for a relationship at the moment and you shouldn't be hoping for one. I am in a consensually nonmonogamous relationship with a wonderful woman. She is my partner & anyone I get to know needs to respect that relationship. All that said, I do make a good friend and entertaining company should you be looking for something low-stress, low-commitment and high-fun.

In any case, if you are interested in getting to know a funny, smart, friendly, slightly nerdy person and you're looking for friendship or something casual, you should message me!

Also, you should message me if bears give you *pants problems*.
