What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
i'm a mechanical engineer.

i work as a mechanical designer. i use 3D CAD modeling software to create mechanical parts and assemblies, create shop drawings for fabrication and get to take a project from its conceptual state, ideally, to a fully produced working ______.

sometimes i feel that this is in conflict with my natural minimalist tendencies. this society has a big problem with waste whether it comes from disposable plastic water bottles or treating un-recyclable electronic devices (cell phones) as if they were also disposable. personally i don't like the idea of toiling and consuming in an effort to design the next "new" thing, just so people throw away their old things to buy the new thing, just so they can throw that out 18 months later.

and yet, i've been fortunate in that every company i've worked for i feel is ultimately working towards a noble means in addition to profits. a new commercial refrigerator that uses significantly less electricity than older models. a data storage device that consumes less energy as it saves every photo you've ever taken forever. a prototype medical imaging device that can be used for advanced detection of cancerous cells. these are a few recent projects i've been involved with.

i've been listening to a lot of ratatat lately...

that goes double for the new HEALTH

i was raised on a healthy diet of MST3k and marx bros., monty python and the talking heads. i never cared for "saved by the bell" or "doug", i was always excited for "the ren & stimpy show" and the kids in the hall.

i've read a lot of isaac asimov. he loves to use the word "sardonic".

i've also read a lot of edgar allen poe. he loves to use the word "ejaculate".
