My Self-Summary

A girl in a world, doin' some stuff, not doing other stuff. You know, like, whatever.

Currently travelling around Australasia, did a round trip in 7 weeks of: Bangkok, Vientiane and Vang Vieng (Laos), Ha Noi, Hoi An, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Phuket, Thailand - then flew to Sydney to do the whole Drunken-Irish-Working-Holiday-In-Autralia for a year thing. So I guess I should change my location really... am I bothered? Nah.

Update: I've been in The Land Down Under since November and now, finally, after living in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and having driven across the Nullarbor with a station wagon, 2 others and a 2 man tent (cosy, no? ...no, not really), I'm in Perth with no money and nowhere (cheap) to live.

Update: Living somewhere really cheap and I have a job! Perth is finally coming good.

Update: I haven't updated this in over 6 months. Get fed up of stupid Perth, drove up the awesome Westcoast, lived and worked in Cable Beach, Broome. This was the best place in Oz so far, I loved almost every minute of it, so easy going and sunny. But. the dry season came to an end, I lost my job, and everyone I loved left. So. Drove up to Darwin, sold my car (sniffle, bye bye my beloved Mack, I lived and loved in you for 10 months!!) Also managed to get a second visa, allowing me to work for another year in this quite wonderful country! Then I flew down to Alice, did all the centrey touristy stuff (which I recommend, especially Kata Tjuta, see it before it gets closed to tourists!!!), and flew back to Melbourne, where I currently reside with great people I met in Broome. Unfortunately, I don't yet have a job and money is average to low. Arg.

Updatey: After Melbourne I moved to work on some farms near Cairns, prawn farm and banana farm, tiny town, great people, great weather. Quit to go home, now I'm there. SUCKS!!!

So, in summary, I'm home, I can't believe people bother to read all that junk up there, I will edit this soon with a witty blurb on the person that lives in this body.

What I’m doing with my life

See above.
I quit my job in a pharmaceutical company to do so. A bold move, one might say, but one says a lot so fuck one.

After 20 months of travelling around Australia, I grew a little tired of the backpacker lifestyle and of being a tourist, and, to avail of mega cheap flights from Kuala Lumpur to London, I decided to come home. I thought it would be cool to be home and settled and back with familiarity. Hoh! The naivety! I'm home 4 weeks now and all sorts of horrible realities are hitting me. Like: No more meeting crazy fun people every day of the week; no more crazy nights boozing it up after a hard days work under the sun; no more gorgeous weather and beautiful beaches; no more upping and leaving for the horizon when a places becomes boring or staid; no more lack of responsibilities - the worst one!! Now I have to get a proper job, or go back to study or some shit!! :(

Update: (yeah, I don't wanna delete stuff, some of things I've written make me seem cool and I can't be bothered thinking up new, smart stuff, so updates it is!) I got a job! In a few weeks I'll be living in the UK, working as a Biosafety Scientist for the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response (that doesn't get any easier to say!), in the southwest. I'm pretty excited though am hoping I won't fall out of the loop with friends back home... travel doesn't do much for ones home life :(

I’m really good at

Apparently using the :P emoticon in ways very different to anyone else. I also make appreciative noises and faces when I eat. I dunno, I'm probably annoying to be around sometimes, but sest la vee.

Getting burnt. Having frizzy hair in humid weather. Spilling food on freshly washed clothes. Freaking out when the camera charger cord snakes come at me in campsites. Attracting possums to my face. Taking long showers. Not knowing what I want out of life - at all.

Wow, I guess you do learn things about yourself when you travel.

PS: I'm full of useless hints, like: A handy way to remember how to spell necessary with the correct amount of C's and S's in the right place is, 1 Coffee with 2 Sugars! (with letters being represented by the beverage choice, look, if you're having trouble I can draw you a diagram, I'm not bad at that either)

The first things people usually notice about me

Pale blue eyes. Freckles. Red hair (now shorter). Tallish. Curvy.

But that's all very superficial, I'll probably be trying to remember your name, or like I did recently, say "Susan, must it" when a guy said "You must be Susan".... I had forgotten his name and got flustered :P

I'll probably also have a food stain on me somewhere too (sexy, non?)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

All of the above in goodly and timely supply. But in general:

I am a fan of dumb movies, comedies, a good drama, horrors fail to scare me, I only occasionally get startled (just can't really suspend my sense of reality to fall for the suspence)

I used to be quite into scifi/fantasy books like Pratchett, Tolkien, etc and while I'm moving more towards biographies, crime etc, His Dark Materials will remain my fave for a long time. Oh, and American Gods is like many a dream I've had, surreal-ish and awesome.

Music taste has expanded greatly since travelling, I can appreciate most types so long as it doesn't wander too far into the extremes of dance/metal, and generally enjoy a nice melody and/or beat. (I like to sing along!)

Massive food fan and have recently upgraded my spice-handling ability from mild to medium, so chuck a bit more chilli in please!

PS: If you put over-long lists of what you like to read/watch/listen to/eat, I will immediately take one star off on your quickmatch. I'm looking for snappy yet informative answers people!

The six things I could never do without

Pathetically: Bunny (my old ted), the internet

Less sadly, more normally: People, time to myself (opposing but required in the right balance), my glasses.

Update: I lost Bunny!!! Damn you Laos Plaza hotel. I am still in mourning.

Anuvver update: It's been 13 months and I'm still missing Bunny. Fight going to that big white field in the sky! Come home boy!

Further update: I also lost my glasses. Doi.

And my camera... ffs...

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What my sixth thing is.

Whether I'll return from my travels full of enlightenment or empty of pocket, or both.

Having the guts to ring up looking for jobs; While looking for a supermarket I managed to tell complete strangers that I hadn't done laundry in 3 weeks. God knows what I'll say under pressure on the phone. (We had been camping and living in a car for 3 weeks, hence the no laundry. Also, I'm just a durty article)

Whether my profile comes off as too desperate for job/the return of aforementioned Bunny. But it really is whats goin' on in ma brain right now!

Why I haven't answered the 2nd thing on this list; I'll do it now. I've returned somewhat both at the same time. A bit wiser, with a coupla quid in my pocket. boo, life is so ordinary.

On a typical Friday night I am

Last Friday I had a beer on the hostel balcony with me travellin buds.

The previous Friday was spent getting drunk with locals on Parry's Beach, WA.

I'd have to consult my travel diary for the Friday previous to that. But I've been to lazy to keep up with that... so, eh... yeah.

This Friday I ate buttered popcorn (which I created by dipping microwave popcorn into the butter dish) while watching late-night comedy in the least-comfortable armchair in the house.

Bit of a mixed bag really. This is a dumb question in fact.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I suck my thumb.

(copying from another profile I recently read but can't remember the name of) I'm quite fond of the Bloodhound Gang.

I only added interests to get a more complete profile.

I still have two baby teeth in my head.

I am highly irritated by the following things: those who cannot be bothered to learn how to spell correctly. rustling plastic bags.

You should message me if

You can think of something original to say.

You think yer hard enuff. (and not in a sex way. Tho... it never hurts... well, it does sometimes if you're going at it too vigorously or at a weird angle...)

You maybe want to buy my Escort in a few months (the car, not the expensive prostitute, she's not available at the moment cos she didn't pass the NCT)
