I moved (technically, back) to San Francisco at the start of 2012, which is recent enough that I'm still working on poking around every nook and cranny around here.
- Discussions. Philosophy, politics, whatever. I can sometimes get a little intense, but not usually.
- Playing the piano. Not the greatest at reading music since I stopped playing classical, but I've been developing a decent ear for jazz improvisation over the last decade, during which time I've played with a handful of bands.
Shows: Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Battlestar Galactica, Arrested Development.
Books: Orwell, Vonnegut, Hesse, Philip K. Dick, John Irving.
Food: Anything, really. Steak, medium rare. Lamb vindaloo. Saag paneer. Tacos, street-style, with the corn tortillas, fresh cilantro, chopped onion, and slice of radish, with lime juice. Carne asada. Carnitas. Thai food. Goulash. Meatballs. Chili. Burgers. Salmon. Anything. Everything. Lots of it. I have an excellent metabolism.
Coffee within 30 minutes of waking up.
Coffee in the afternoon.
Coffee in the shower. OK, I made that one up. Here's the real answer: at least a few friends whom I can call unplanned, to get together and do absolutely nothing.
The Internet. So I can occasionally Wikipedia coffee, and so I can pat myself on the back whenever I discover one of its health benefits. Big fan of confirmation bias.
Spontaneity, in others and in myself. Spontaneity as an artistic virtue.
Big existential questions such as: how does one define a life well-lived? How do you choose a framework for self-evaluation?
When I'm not chewing on things like that, I can be found thinking about some obscure detail of some project I'm working on.
