I spent the past spring and summer working as a reporter and political journalist for the Saudi Press Agency at the Saudi embassy in D.C. and absolutely loved it. Before that, I worked at the Smithsonian (three museums) for four years and spent a few months working as a barmaid in the U.K. in between.
I'm currently doing my Master's in American Studies with plans to pursue journalism (I know, what a foolproof way to get a job!) when I finish next summer. I'm at Western and divide my week between London and Toronto- I dislike London, so I can be found in Toronto every Thursday-Sunday. I'll be moving to Toronto permanently this April, which I'm looking forward to.
I love things and places that are lost, decaying, desolate. Places like Detroit, Baltimore, Buffalo, boardwalks at night and in winter, randomly discovered ruins of buildings etc. are magical to me. I love being around writers, filmmakers, photographers, wanderers, travelers, or just people who are interested in the world and the things that lie beneath the surface.
I've done a lot of traveling and have lived in four countries in the past year. The farthest I've gone is Pakistan, and I have no intention to ever go back.
I also like to talk about politics (especially American), history, geography and travel, good movies and shows and music, and the (sometimes sad) state of affairs in the world. People willing to chat endlessly about these things with me are always nice to have around.
