I am multi-faceted, laid back, and nerdy.

My Self-Summary

Thanks for viewing my profile. I am a high school special education teacher and an adjunct professor of biology.

I am a trained singer (bass-baritone), and I enjoy biking and walks through the local wildlife refuge. I love my hometown and family is very important to me. I have an eight year old labrador retriever. I'm somewhat of a social butterfly and I get along with almost anyone.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now - relaxing and doing all the things I deprive myself of 10 months / year. Life begins again for me the first week of September.

Recently finished my MA in Education with a concentration in special ed. I also hold a MS in biology.

I’m really good at

Singing,
Relating to other people,
Explaining new and complex things to others.

Smiling. Others have given me the nickname smiley.

I have mad google skills. So I'm good at solving my own problems and this brings other people to come to me with theirs.

I'm a good listener, and I don't talk much about myself.
As a result, I still surprise most of my friends with new tidbits after knowing them for years.

The first things people usually notice about me

My voice, or my eyes.
If not that, my age. When I teach my college class, I get surprised looks on the first night of every class - they expect someone older.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

BOOKS:
A Walk in the Woods, Field Notes from a Catastrophe, The Last Lecture, The DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, Prey, Music the Brain and Ecstasy, The Cognitive Neuroscience of Music, Ear and Brain: How We Make Sense of Sounds, Red Sky at Morning, Streetcar Named Desire, Catcher in the Rye, Andromeda Strain, Prey, The Legend of Gilgamesh, This is Your Brain On Music.

MOVIES:
A Christmas Story, Awakenings, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Finding Nemo, GATTACA, Ghostbusters, The Godfather I & II, History of the World: Part I, Indiana Jones (in anything except the temple of Doom), James Bond movies, North by Northwest, Oceans 11 & 12, The Princess Bride, The Producers (both 1968 and 2005), Serendipity, Any Star Wars,
Young Frankenstein.

Music:
I have an eclectic taste in music. I am a classically trained singer, so I really like anything in my voice part that I think fits me well. I've recently gotten addicted to Pandora to help me expand my music tastes. My iPod has pieces that vary from [Gilbert & Sullivan] to [50 cent] to [Bing Crosby] to [Toby Keith] to [Josh Groban]. It really depends more on the song rather than the genre.

Food:
I love peanut butter, mac & cheese, grilled cheese (and other stuff that 3 year olds enjoy), potato pierogis
SONIC, Waffle House, Cracker Barrel

Quotes: (Even though not specifically asked for)
"Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life."

"Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." - Les Brown

Take the plunge!" - Dr. Pollock

"Love is the definite integral of the intensity of pleasure with respect to time...The equation for charging a capacitor is the same as the equation for love.....If it weren't for the constant of integration no one would ever fall in love." - Ron Ruemmler

"Rainbows are just the tracks made when fairies enter the earth's atmosphere and burn up."

The six things I could never do without

I don't even know what to write here.
I like camping because I can get away with what I can carry on my back.
So I can go with the bare essentials. (sleeping bag, water, tent, food).

Having spent some time where there was no warm water, I now appreciate having that too.

Aside from the basics, I enjoy having my family and friends for support.
I always need a goal (or several) to be working towards.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I'm very introspective.

1) I think a lot about my work, the classes I teach, and ways to keep my students from being bored.

2) My future & the type of person I want to spend it with. Being a science / music / theatre guy - I have a big soft spot for girls with the same interests. I find motivation enthusiasm and intelligent conversations incredibly sexy. I want someone that I can be goofy with but someone who can also be my rock and motivation.

On a typical Friday night I am

I don't really have a typical Friday night routine.
Some nights I'm out, others, I just stay in and catch up on with my Tivo or a rented movie.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I can't dance. I've done musical theatre numbers and I learn choreographed numbers better than most guys are, but it's still awkward. I blame it on martial arts. I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Doe, where there are "forms" to memorize similar to a dance routine, but the steps are bigger, and more rigid. Besides the choreographed numbers, I would like to work feel more comfortable with just dancing freestyle. One of these days I would love to take some dance lessons, but having had grad school up until this summer, I haven't gotten around to it.

Nothing, I'm not a private person so if you ask me something I'll probably tell you. Get to know me and then you'll find out plenty.

You should message me if

You feel that we share many of the same interests.

So, if any of this appeals to you in any way and you think we would get along, I look forward to talking to you soon.
