My Self-Summary

I've been told I don't capture myself in this profile....so I've decided to list out some of the adjectives friends have used to describe me - serious, goofy, laid back, fidgety, sarcastic, witty, dry, honest, a jerk, kind, smart, clueless, caring, reliable, the opposite of spontaneous, always up for trying something new,.....I'm sure there's more but I can't remember everything I've been called. As for what people who aren't my friends say to describe me....heh, I'll leave that for an in person discussion.

Anywho, chances are this profile will tell you a reasonable amount about me but will not give you a true representation of what it's like to hang out with me/be friends with me/etc. If you want to find out more based on what you see, ask (hell, The Smiths wrote a song about asking for what you want, so give it a shot).

What I’m doing with my life

Living it and trying to figure out how to live it better.

I have managed to pick up a couple of hobbies along the way to keep my mind occupied. I'm learning to play the guitar and dabbling (somewhat seriously) in photography.

Meditation is something important to me, I find it a useful practice and it helps me be a better person.

I'm gainfully employed, which is a nice way of saying I have enough money for my standards but am not enamored with my work. I'm in the process of figuring out how to change this situation.

I’m really good at

Being a super awesome friend. Think about it, how many of your friends would you consider super awesome? Awesome, maybe, super, occasionally, but Super AND Awesome? Be honest.

Somehow I manage to be both nice and incredibly sarcastic. I've been told it's an art form.

Reading while walking or doing pretty much anything, I used to walk the busy streets where I grew up with my nose in a book, and didn't get killed.

The first things people usually notice about me

I imagine it's my accent, which is somewhat uncommon. Almost no one guesses where I'm from.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

DUNE, The Hotel New Hampshire, LOTR and Harry Potter are probably my top books. I tend to prefer slightly twisted tales like John Irving's work. The last books I finished were Snakes and Earrings by Hitomi Kanehara and Strange Pilgrims by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, both of which I liked. I'm currently working on On Photography by Susan Sontag

More recent movies I've liked include UP, Stranger than Fiction, The Secretary and Lost in Translation. Similar to my taste in books I like stories that are interesting/different. I also enjoyed most of the big superhero movies of late, I shouldn't have to explain why if you have read this section. Old favorites are Blazzing Saddles, Hackers, L'auberge Espagnole and Almost Famous, as well as The Princess Bride.

I listen to a lot of different styles of music, I'll give most anything a chance apart from new country. This is in part due to learning the guitar but also because I like to dance and like anything that lets me do that. Here's a selection of the artists I listen to on a pretty regular basis, see if you can figure out a preference from this -
Ani DiFranco, Audioslave, B.B. King, The Band, Band of Horses, The Bee Gees, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Cat Power, Coldplay, The Cranberries, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Duran Duran, Earth Wind and Fire, Eric Clapton, The Frames, The Flaming Lips, Fleet Foxes, Girl Talk, The Gza, The Rza, Wu Tang Clan, Method Man, Ice Cube, Holly McNarland, Howlin' Wolf, The Human League, Interpol, James, Kasabian, Keane, Led Zeppelin, Lily Allen, Mazzy Star, MGMT, Muddy Waters, The New Pornographers, Phoenix, Pink Floyd, The Pixies, The Police, R.E.M., Red House Painters, Rilo Kiley, Robert Cray, The Smiths, The Strokes, Snow Patrol, Tegan and Sara, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I'm not a big foodie, but if it's spicy I'm usually a fan. Nothing matches a good home made Sri Lankan curry for me, with some lentils and rice...mmmmmm. Ask nicely and maybe I'll make you some.

The six things I could never do without

My first answer would be air, water, food, shelter, friends and high speed internet.

But, if I'm playing along I would say - friends, meditation, good music, web comics, high speed internet, contacts/glasses (because I'm blind)

I don't usually go around thinking how much I need one thing or the other. I only care that much about my family of choice. And the internet help me stay in touch with them.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a good bit of time thinking about how to think less and how to solve problems without thinking. I know, I'm crazy like that.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out getting dinner or drinks with friends. Maybe practicing the guitar or editing photos to relax after a long week if I'm not in a social mood.

If you have better ideas for what I should/could be doing on Friday night, or any other night for that matter speak up.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I once ended up with several pounds of loose leaf tea through a series of unfortunate events, none of which was a drug deal.

Oh and I have worked in a carnival, that's right, I was a Carney.

You should message me if

It would be cool if you messaged me just because you felt like it.

Or if you are madly attracted to me, but please keep in mind I'm more than just a pretty face.

If you have shenanigans in mind and want participants, you should try me, I'll probably say yes.
