I am Literate, Relaxed, and Curious.
My Self-Summary
Grandmother but Not Dead Yet.
Academic library cataloger;
Neopagan High Priestess of
Schmicca in the First Church of the Most Appropriate Metaphor (that
and c$3.50 will get me a latte -- religion is not a deal-breaker
here but to be perfectly clear: I am
not a Christian); Armchair Latin
Americanist; Got a soft spot for
geeks, but not much interest in
professional sports.
I was born & raised on the West Coast. 3-1/2 years on the East
Coast from 1988-1991 was excruciating. I'm definitely a
Westerner.
How I present: Casual is my only mode -- I don't often wear makeup,
stockings or heels, don't spend a lot of time or money on hair or
clothes, don't shave unless I damn well feel like it. If my shoes
are uncomfortable, I'm very unhappy. This is not to say I don't
clean up pretty good when the occasion warrants.) When overheated,
I will take something off -- sometimes you can't take me
anywhere.
I'm looking to make the remainder of my life (est. +/-35 years)
more interesting, meaningful and intimate. I don't know how to
Date.
Most -- but not all -- of my relationship experience has been with
men. Gender is secondary to chemistry. I'm not looking to get
"picked up" by a couple.
I feel it's my job to make gentle
mischief when subjected to pomposity or
excruciating same-old-ness. OTOH, I have a dark and
wicked sense of humor that
occasionally makes my tongue even sharper than my wit. Some times,
this makes for trouble. If you've gotten matched to this profile,
chances are I could make you laugh.
What I’m doing with my life
Working, taking care of my house & yard, being a low-key
version of Family Matriarch, taking
film classes, trying to keep my
head above water in the material world.Stumbling through some yoga
and enthused about related chanting practices.
I don't enjoy living alone as much as I always thought I would.
Then again, it's nice not to have to compromise, or wait for
somebody else to take care of things.
I’m really good at
Details.
The first things people usually notice about me
You tell me.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books include: Panshin's Rite of Passage, Austen's P&P,
Pratchett's Discworld series, Evanovich's Plum capers, Pynchon's
Mason & Dixon, Delany's Driftglass, Stephenson's Snowcrash,
Sterling's Distraction. Am usually up for Ursula LeGuin, Judith
Merkle Riley, Christopher Moore, Christopher Buckley, Carl Hiaasen,
Elmore Leonard, Elizabeth Moon, Lois McMaster Bujold, Octavia
Butler, Donald Westlake, Cecelia Holland. I seem to have outgrown
Ann McCaffrey, but occasionally go on a Regency romance binge.
On-and-off reading Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series. The other
books on my nightstand include Eat, Pray, Love; Meditations from
the Mat; Be Here Now.
Movies:
Monty Python and the
Holy Grail. I love the
Silent Era. I find
screwball comedies of
the 30s highly therapeutic. Last summer I went to see Iron Man and
You Don't Mess With the Zohan twice. Most fun movie this year was
Star Trek. I think
La Strada is brilliant and I hated
Persona.
Bread & Tulips is the
perfect Italian romance. I will watch Mexican melodramas from the
50s but intensely dislike contemporary Argentine cinema.
City of God is awesome;
Almodovar
usually makes me laugh.
Music:
World
Music especially. I will listen to most anything except
Rap/HipHop, Muzak, and "smooth (i.e. comatose) jazz".
Food:
Food is
Love I travel 2-1/2 hours to pickseveral pounds of
fresh raspberries
each Fall. I make regular use of my big, manly 3+ burner
grill. Indian, Thai, Mexican,
Chinese, designer Pizza, ice cream, steaks, seafood, dark beer,
grilled veggies,
green chile cheeseburgers, salad
bars...whaddya got? OTOH, I'm *trying* to lower my cholesterol...
The six things I could never do without
Chile. Books. Coffee. Comfortable shoes. Good drinking water. Quiet
time.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What's happening right now.
How I got here and how to be OK with that.
What do with the lottery money, should it ever become an
issue.
The gods and their inhumanity.
How to get a really good night's sleep.
The sacredness of All Creation. (Did I mention I am
not a
Christian?
What book to read next.
What color to paint my toenails.
Lunch.
How to age with style and grace.
Dinner.
Who to be when I grow up.
What still works, and what no longer serves?
Remembering to be be happy.
On a typical Friday night I am
...off right after work to candlelight yoga class & Devi puja
ceremony. Then home to chill the rest of the way out.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I've got a profile on OK Cupid, for pete's sake...
You should message me if
Anything I've written got you to thinking about...anything. If
you'd like to know what the heck I mean by anything I wrote. If you
think I get you laughing, or vice-versa. If you like to take it
slow & easy.
