My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
i'm new to philadelphia & looking to make some new friends who enjoy doing things besides going out to bars.

i like having conversations about substantial [& fascinating!] things & experiencing beautiful forms of art, life, adventures, et cetera. but i'm new to the city & not entirely sure where to find such things in these here environs.

i'm afraid i am not looking for sex or romance. strictly platonic!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
just started my own business! having a grand ol' time trying to balance my work life with some more personal time.

(i've never been adept at moderation.)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
cleaning, organising, doing graphic design, painting, being an ace massage therapist, thoroughly enjoying bookstores as a hobby, watching excellent movies, listening to intriguing conversations/soliloquys & offering an extraordinarily well-adjusted perspective, aaand...being a complete shut-in (i have to make a very conscious & active effort to not be a modern-day emily dickinson. i am largely unsuccessful at this endeavor.)

among other things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
i speak very, very quietly.

what I wish they knew simultaneously: that me being shy has absolutely NOTHING to do with my self-esteem. i'm introspective, dammit...not ashamed! make the distinction!

(if my hair isn't pinned up, though, that usually takes the cake.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Steve Erickson, James Joyce, Michael Ondaatje, Emily Dickinson, Anaïs Nin, Virginia Woolf, Jorge Luis Borges, Samuel Beckett, Bertolt Brecht. as for nonfiction, i prefer to read about research from cognitive neuroscience, or stuff involving mythological theory &/or Jung.

Film: anything by Ingmar Bergman, Luis Buñuel, Akira Kurosawa, Woody Allen, & others...i'll watch anything that's in the Criterion Collection (or American Film Archives) at least once. favorite films include Wings of Desire & the Saragossa Manuscript. i watch the 1931 Threepenny Opera when i'm bummed out.

Shows, in absolutely no order whatsoever: Community, Parks & Recreation, Northern Exposure, Monty Python, Kids in the Hall, 30 Rock, Louie, MythBusters, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, that neat recent British revamping of the Sherlock Holmes series, & anything written by Aaron Sorkin. also, TED.com is my homepage...i love TEDtalks.

Food: going through a big spinach and kale phase right now. avocados are wonderful. i like to make green smoothies...i have narcolepsy. long story short, the only way for me to eat food during the day without falling asleep is via smoothie.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
sleep.
touch.
beauty.
rain.
good music.
mythologies.

(in no particular order.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
integrity, accuracy, precision, consilience; the nexus between emotional experience & physical well-being; nature versus nurture; the ability & morality of promise-making; the value of being an introvert in a society largely designed for extroverts.

also? cats.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
either having a quiet evening at home with my lovely...or venturing into bookstores around Philly.

or just curling up in bed with my cat + book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
i not only dropped out of high school, but college too! long story.

you honestly & truly would like to make a new friend. (i am very happily committed in a 3-year long term relationship with my special someone—i have absolutely no romantic aspirations.) i would just like to make some of my own friends in Philly.
