My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a consummate learner, an intellectual, a good conversationalist, a musician, and an all-around nice guy. I'm driven by a passion to learn things. I lived in Japan for three years before coming back to get my masters in computer science, and now I work as a software engineer. I love math and science, art, politics, wacky discussions involving hypotheticals (see the Logically Critical podcast), and anything that can give me new things to think about. I can talk about pretty much everything with a willing partner.

I'm not looking for a short-lived and meaningless relationship. I'm looking for something real, with someone whom I can call equally my friend and my partner. I make a great boyfriend: I'm sweet, considerate, passionate, fun, and absolutely loyal. Not to toot my own horn, or anything.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working as a software developer for a small-ish (slightly larger than startup?) company in downtown Chicago. I write a lot of code, mostly Python (at work) and Haskell (at home). I love learning math as a hobby; currently I'm studying logic, type theory and category theory to varying degrees of rigor. Currently learning about dependent type theory via the Coq interactive theorem prover. Ask me about that. It's the shit.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
(over)using the semicolon. I couldn't function without it; it lets me put two sentences together! :D
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Music: I have a rather unique palette of musical tastes. On the one hand, I mostly listen to a lot of extreme metal (death metal, black metal, grindcore, doom, progressive, djent, slam). But on the other hand, I can't deny that certain pop music is just catchy as hell... so I listen to a lot of that too. There's some musical theater and classical thrown in as well.

Movies: I'm no expert on movies, but I recently got a netflix subscription, so send me recommendations. Some of my favorites are Casablanca, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Pulp Fiction, Two Can Play That Game, Catch Me If You Can, Rango, Tropic Thunder, City of God, and a whole bunch of kids movies -- pretty much anything by Pixar, Despicable Me, Bolt, Lilo & Stitch, Coraline, Tangled...

TV: I now own a TV with cable (I'm a real 'murican I guess). I've been kind of following football this season, for the first time. I watch a lot of competitive reality shows on hulu (Project Runway, Top Chef, ANTM, Hell's Kitchen, RuPaul's Drag Race...). Some of my favorites of past and present are The Wire (pretty much the best show ever made IMO), Six Feet Under (close second), Mad Men (close third), Arrested Development (greatest comedy ever), Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Modern Family, Community, Twin Peaks, Dexter, House, Lost, Oz, The Mentalist, True Blood, and some others. Not all of them I've seen all the way through, though.

Books: I don't read much fiction. I recently read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which was great. I'd like to read more Murakami. I mostly read a lot of math and computer science books, which I love. I'm a big fan of A Song of Ice and Fire (the series upon which Game of Thrones is based).

Food: I love Italian, Mexican, Ethiopian, Moroccan, and pretty much any Asian food. I love hot dogs and I make (prepare, really) somewhat fancy hot dogs on a regular basis. I make killer tuna salad sandwiches too. I'm a huge fan of IPAs. Hoppy makes me happy.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
math
coffee
conversation
music
family
my dog
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How amusing it is when people say they like "everything" when it comes to music. I guess, then, that you'd rock out to this with me?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Recently, it's been playing Magic: The Gathering. I know, nerdy, but don't knock it till you've tried it. Other than that, it's mostly either dinner with friends/family or some much-appreciated rest.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I recently had my first Japanese conversation in over a year, and realized I needed to downgrade my level to "Okay". :(
