Talking about oneself is very awkward... I am a scientist. I love nature (this includes hiking, canoeing, backpacking, and other outdoor types of things). I am social but benefit from alone time. I enjoy fine wines, ciders, teas, and scotches, but not beer or coffee (heathen!). I sleep a good bit, enjoy warm showers, massages, and cuddling (sensual type), and can always be woken up by the smell of fresh bread (yes, I admit it, I'm a bit of a foodie).

I'm currently in a long-term relationship, but happy to date poly-friendly folks. I'm mostly straight (Kinsey 1.5, maybe?), and my relationship experience has mostly been with guys, but I'm open to dating women. More interested in the person than the gender.

I'm currently a grad student, but have aspirations to continue in academia and do research. I study the role that floral scent plays in attracting pollinators to flowers (and the evolution of this interaction), and will probably be studying this for the rest of the forseeable future.

Losing track of time (I'm writing this on Friday night rather than going home... oops). Science, science writing, gardening, looking at insects and plants. Overplanning backpacking trips (I'm almost too cautious). Knowing too much about medicine. Squeeing about things. Enjoying (yes, actually) reading the same book over and over, as long as it's a good book (I like new experiences but I don't require them to sustain my life force on a daily basis).

Books - Guy Gavriel Kay, Sherri S. Tepper, with some Raymond E. Feist, Mercedes Lackey, and the like thrown in. I've been making forays into nonfiction now that I've found good recommendations; I spend too much time reading scientific papers all day to want to slog through bad nonfiction.

Movies - depends, generally scifi, comedy, drama. No horror (except Silence of the Lambs, for some reason).

Shows - I don't watch TV regularly, but I enjoy Good Eats, the Simpsons, Doctor Who (in moderation), and any of the "we'll show you how it's made" shows.

Music - electronica, Celtic (both trad and newer stuff), classic rock (60s/70s/early 80s), classical, occasional forays into newer stuff. Not really into rap, hip hop, or R&B, but otherwise I'll listen to most things.

Food - soft spot for Thai, Indian, Japanese, things heavy on the vegetables but good meat too. I have issues tolerating heavy amounts of capsaicin, unfortunately.

Physical affection, cats, books, SCIENCE!, music, sleep.

Evolution. Research. The nature of life, consciousness, etc. Ethics (mostly bioethics).

Generally being a homebody, unless someone has a games night or there's a concert or movie I really want to go to. So cooking dinner (or going out to a quiet dinner). Not a clubbing or bar-type-person.

I don't do "shades of gray" (ugh) on public-private stuff. I'm either pretty open about everything to you, or I don't tell you much beyond what's in my profile here.
