My self-summary Propose an edit
So, it's been a while since I updated this profile, so I figured
I'd revamp it. My name is Mark and I'll be your narrator for this
little examination of myself and my thoughts.
I am a mathematician and computer scientist by trade and by hobby.
I'm also a gamer, whether they be of the video or board variety and
everything in between. I also enjoy learning new things, regardless
of what they may be. I try to be an activist regarding the issues I
care about, though perhaps I'm not as active as I should be. I'm
also looking to try anything new.
All in all, I'm trying to experience the most out of life. As with
most things though, it's usually better to share an experience with
someone else than to do so alone, which is why I am here!

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I am an algorithmatist (is this a real word? If not, it is now! Go
powers of wordsmithing!) working on a data analysis tool. Or, to
put it more simply, I make a tool that all sorts of scientists use
to analyse their data.
Sometime soon, I hope to head back to school and work on a graduate
degree of some sort, maybe in Underwater Basket Weaving. Also,
hopefully, I'll travel a bit; I've always wanted to explore Europe
and, now that I have the money to, hopefully I will do so soon.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I'm really good at puzzles and figuring out odd problems. I'm good
at learning things; put a good text book in front of me and I'll
absorb whatever is in it like a sponge. I'm also really good at
sleeping. It may not seem like an impressive skill, but let me
assure you it is quite impressive.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My fedora. Some have said that I'm "fedorable".
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Rather than making a big long list of each thing, let's just say
that my favourite things are complex and cerebral. I like things
that really stimulate the senses or mind in a plethora of ways. I
like Scotch because it is complex and very nuanced. I enjoy heady
thrillers and dramas for the way they inspire thought.
All of these things are favourite topics of mine to discuss, so if
you want more insight, send me a message. I'd love to talk with you
about these things.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Books, the internet, friends, the sublime and ridiculous, and two
other things which I cannot think of but I'm sure exist.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
The nature of the universe. I tend to think a lot about how the
universe works, how everything relates to everything else, the
innate beauty of the universe, and our place in the universe. Also,
the coming zombie apocalypse.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Either hanging out with my friends or just relaxing by myself and
occupying myself with one of my various hobbies.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
If I admitted it here, then it wouldn't be private, would it? So,
we have here something equivalent to the Liar's Paradox.
I try to be an open book as much as I can, so there aren't any
private things that I can think of off the top of my head that
aren't utterly inconsequential.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You want to talk about anything in my profile or, really, anything
at all. I love intelligent conversation of any sort, so if you are
up to talking intelligently about something, send me a message. If
you do, however, please do not use "u" or "r" or any such text
messaging abbreviations; it's not that much effort to type out the
whole word and it makes your message appear so much more
intelligent.
Also, I do smoke. I do recognise it is bad for me and I do
recognise that it is pretty unpleasant to be around if you are a
non-smoker and I try to be as considerate to non-smokers as
possible. I am not actively trying to quit, but if an immediate
reason came up for quitting, I would certainly jump on it. So, if
you abhor smoking but I seem pretty cool besides that, contact me
anyway. Let me know how you feel about smoking and if we ever met
in person, I'd keep my bad habit at home and away from you.
