I am cynically optimistic, tortured, and a hopeless romantic.

My Self-Summary

I'm just your basic, everyday, incredibly honest and intelligent boy-next-door-who-was-born-a-girl. Might as well get all my cards out on the table, so there are no surprises to be had later. Honestly, apart from a slight accident of birth, I'm no different from any other guy who strives to make the absolute best of life, wants to find true love and good friends, is honest to the point of bluntness, writes novels and stories prolifically, aspires to be a forensic psychologist, knows the lyrics to thousands of songs by rote, reads voraciously, and cooks with passion.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently going through a divorce, which isn't the best of circumstances, and while it wasn't my idea, I'm moving on with my life and looking forward to the next curve ball it will inevitably throw me. After a three-year hiatus, I'm finishing the last few credits of my psychology B.A., and hope to start grad school for forensic psych in fall 2010. While Denver isn't my idea of heaven (I prefer warmer weather, and would probably be in northern California if finances permitted), it's a pretty nice place, and I'm enjoying exploring the city. In every new experience, I figure, is a new adventure waiting to be discovered.

I’m really good at

Hmm... no room for humility, yeah? Well, I dig writing, and have since I was old enough to hold a pen (no pencils, please... they're too impermanent). People who understand my particular brand of dark humor and penchant for cryptic storylines tend to enjoy it, so I suppose I must be quite good. I'm adept at remembering things; if there's any doubt as to what occurred on a particular night anywhere from two nights to ten years ago, I can typically elucidate things. I'd like to say I'm good at the guitar, though I only dabble in it, and my singing prowess probably outweighs my guitar-playing aptitude exponentially; I should have stuck with the cello. Of course, there's always time to go back.

The first things people usually notice about me

I don't typically get a lot of comments of this nature. I suppose it's fairly apparent that I'm a quiet person, though once someone with similar opinions/interests gets me talking, it's tough to get me to stop. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm that exceptional in the appearance department, though that's merely skin-deep. Hence, first impressions of me are typically made via conversation and inquisition about my interests and whatnot.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books (in no particular order, and exempting quite a few due to space constraints): Big Sur by Jack Kerouac, A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick, American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, Demian by Hermann Hesse, Zen in the Art of Writing by Ray Bradbury, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes, It and The Stand by Stephen King, A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, 1984 by George Orwell, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Drifters by James Michener, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

Movies (again, a massively truncated list): American Psycho, Vanilla Sky, Cabin Fever, Hostel, Butterfly Effect, A Lot Like Love, Pretty Persuasion, Passengers, The Safety of Objects, The Hole, Final Destination, Final Destination 2, Towelhead, Zeitgeist, Zeitgeist: Addendum, Fight Club, Farmhouse, The Ringer, Natural Born Killers, True Romance, Wrong Turn, Hostel 1 & 2, Nightmare on Elm Street (entire series), High Tension, A Clockwork Orange, Rebel Without A Cause, Gypsy, Moulin Rouge, Westside Story, Say Anything, The Trouble With Angels, Benny & Joon, Muriel's Wedding, Can't Buy Me Love, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, Election, Saving Grace, Harvard Man, Bend It Like Beckham, Cold Comfort Farm, Stepford Wives (both versions), Shaun of the Dead, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bogus Journey, Idle Hands, Anchorman, Employee of the Month (the Matt Dillon one, NOT the Jessica Simpson/Dane Cook one), Slackers, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, But I'm a Cheerleader, Panic Room, Ginger Snaps, Igby Goes Down, Poltergeist 1-3, Saved, Dawn of the Dead (2004), The Mothman Prophecies

TV Shows (it didn't ask for them, but I'll put them regardless): Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, House, Law & Order: SVU, Journeyman, Jericho, Cold Case, Intervention, True Blood, Weeds, Medium, The Sarah Silverman Program

Music: My tastes are incredibly eclectic, and there's not any particular genre I'll exempt from my listening queue. Among my favorites are Beethoven, Vivaldi, Mussorgsky, The Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult, John Mellencamp, Counting Crows, The Fratellis, Owl City, She Wants Revenge, Angels and Airwaves, All-American Rejects, Nine Inch Nails, Evanescence, Serj Tankian, Cypress Hill, ICP, Bowling for Soup, Everclear, Collective Soul, Huey Lewis, Steve Winwood, The Last Goodnight, Van Halen... just to name a few.

Food: Pretty much anything rich and well- thought out. I LOVE Indian food and sushi, but am always up for trying something new, and have tried everything I've had the opportunity to try. I do NOT, however, eat barbecue ribs, peanut butter, or mushrooms. Weird, I know, but that's me.

The six things I could never do without

1. Books and music (yes, I know that's two, but I'm cheating)
2. My sense of wonder and adventure
3. Freedom, namely the freedom to not only do what I want, but to have the resources to travel anywhere, explore whatever I'd like, etc.
4. Love, and yet I've lived without it for quite awhile now. I suppose I've become a tad stingy with sharing it.
5. My dog... and yet I've lived without her for the past two years, since she was cruelly stolen from me. After countless attempts to get her back, I'm now resolved to get a new puppy... and NO ONE will ever take that one away.
6. My propensity for overthinking EVERYTHING. Though I curse it often, I would never give it up.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Life, the universe, and everything. Oh wait, that was Douglas Adams. I think about the world, and what I'd do to help the people in it who are suffering, if only I had the resources available to do so. I think about all the places I've been, and all the places I've yet to go. I think about all the people I've met, and wish I could know how they came to be who they are. All in all, I think about pretty much everything.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either at home, chatting with friends and/or watching a movie, or out at a bar or club, trying to meet new people or hanging out with old friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm bisexual! Oh, crap... that's on my profile. Well, in lieu of that, I suppose I'll say that a particular part of my anatomy has been broken into a thousand pieces and is waiting for someone to put it back together. No, perverts... I'm talking about my heart!

You should message me if

you're looking for a genuine person who looks for the best in other people, has a lot of love left to give, and wants someone with whom to spend his life and passions. Or, alternately, if you're looking for a good friend who will always be honest with you, keep your secrets, and stand by you in good times and bad, I'm your guy.
