Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a nerd. I'm big on tech, gaming, and movies. I'm less nerdy on
comic books and TV, even though I do enjoy them when they're
recommended by friends. I'm also not a beer nerd, cooking nerd or
music nerd, although I do have friends into those. I'm also really
not into sports, unless it's car racing. Then it's awesome.
I go to PAX east every year, always apply to the Omegathon, never
been selected though.
I also go to a few track days or autocross events a year. They're
brilliant fun, but also fearsome if a loved one is needlessly
risking his life.
I've run a few marathons, one in 1997, the next in 2007. So I'm due
again in about 3 years. I love the way I look in the weeks just
before the run. But it's such a time commitment, thirty to forty
hours a week! Furthermore I don't think my knees will tolerate that
again. I may have to back off to half marathons every five years or
I get to Newport, Rhode Island for vacations. Mainly because I
can't get the internet there, and that forces me outside of my
comfort zone. There's lots of idle culture there, but I gravitate
towards Brenton Point, to fly kites, and the beach. But it's a
great place, no mediocre restaurants or bars in downtown
I'm very content with my life, and I'm hoping to find someone who
will enjoy theirs with me.

I can't stand the Big Bang Theory, but I can't stop watching it
either. The characters are such caricatures of geekdom in the 21st
century that I can't help but feel that it's pandering to me. And
yet I'm grateful that someone's trying to meet me halfway.
Actually, that's a bit of a lie. My Tivo is capturing those, and I
fully intend on spending 2.5 hours on watching it (ugh, such a
chore) But I actually end up watching TV about high functioning
sociopaths. House, Dexter, Barney, I think I envy their ability to
say everything that they think, and get away with it, because it's
brilliant. But the stuff I truly treasure is on Cartoon network at
2 AM. Did I mention I'm a huge nerd?
I'm a big fan of 80's films. Robocop, the Princess bride, Aliens
and Top gun are my staple films for idle weekends in the house.
That's not to say I don't like new stuff, but there is so much
quality in the history of film, what's playing right now usually
doesn't hold up.
I used to lead in with J K Rowling. But I've read her latest book
and everyone's just a shit to each other, It's put me a bit off.
I'm wondering what traits she thinks an "adult" book should have,
because I've read her adult fare and it makes me want to be a child
again. But I would still buy and read anything she writes though
Also I really hope Patrick Rothfuss finishes the 3rd book of the
Kingkiller chronicle. Side note, never start a series of books that
hasn't been finished yet, I'm horribly impatient. The last
standalone book I read was "Ready player one." and right now I'm
starting "His Majesty's Dragon" Which hasn't really set it's hooks
into me yet. It's still a bit of work to pick it up.

How big an ass I really am.
I once attended a lecture for Navy Captains that had just been
selected for Admiral (I was a facilitator for the classroom.) The
first and key lesson was to learn about your inner ass. His point
was that these men are powerful now, and going to become vastly
more so. That could have a corrupting effect on their personality.
Furthermore, they probably wouldn't have anyone to tell them,
frankly, how much of an ass they'd become. He recommended that
their best chance of learning about this was talking closely with
their wives. But in the end, they probably never know how badly
people perceived them, and it was probably worse than they
I wasn't the target for the lesson, but it still stuck. To this
day, I'm still aware of how much of an ass I can be moment to
moment, even when I am powerless to stop it as it happens.
Also boobs, I think about boobs a lot. (Dammit!)
