My self-summary
Sweet, sensual, philosophical, passionate and big- hearted. I enjoy putting smiles on people's faces, being curious about the world, and making music. I'm working towards a sustainable and fulfilling career in physical therapy whilst attempting to break through creative barriers.

Musically, I've amassed about 20 songs in the last 7 years. My vocal and song-writing style is unique but it's likely considered alternative/folk with some blues and ethereal shoe-gazer thrown in for good measure. I'm releasing my solo album any day now. Before that I collaborated on a world music album called Life is a Play. You can find it here:

After trying many unfulfilling careers and just about giving up to become a barista, I discovered my dream career. I've learned that working directly with people's bodies is what will make me happiest. And I have an abundance of patience and focus to give to people who are going through tough transitions. When a friend suggested physical therapy I fell in love and went back to school.

I love being active. Am thinking of doing a triathlon. I enjoy just about every form of physical activity including swimming, biking, hiking, and working-out. I've delved into many different sports, even some edgier ones like roller derby. In the summer of 2010 I walked all 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago. It was a challenging journey, physically, mentally, and emotionally and it opened my mind to seeing fresh possibilities for my life. As a result I'm much happier and lead a more balanced life than before.

Reading is one of my favorite activities, especially now that it's gotten colder. I spend as much time listening to NPR as I would listening to a partner. I enjoy learning about world politics, intrepid people going against cultural mores and politics, and anything happening in the natural world. I love learning about the wondrous human body and relish opportunities to dissect hearts and brains.

I also enjoy dissecting hearts and brains in other ways. I relish true connections and exploring the junctions between myself and others. Basically I think we're all here to teach and learn from each other. I'm also a bit of a self-development junkie and amateur philosopher. I listen to Thich Nat Hanh and read Taoist poetry. I love providing emotional support to friends with relationship problems and life purpose questions, especially since I've been through quite a bit myself.

One of the most unique things about me is my insatiable curiosity about people from other cultures. I can find a foreigner like a needle in a haystack. I'm currently on an "Eastern streak" in terms of learning more about the Arab world. I even began learning Farsi a little bit. I make a mean guttural H sound. And that I owe to the Dutch, who are very gezellig. :)

I'm originally from the South. And I've traveled to Mexico, India, Spain, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Wales, and England. I have a bucket list item to host someone from every country on couchsurfing.org. I love languages and speak Spanish pretty fluently. I'd love to meet an intercambio.

Lastly, I love to cook and eat and feed people (read the wrong way, this could implicate cannibalistic tendencies). I get a local farm box and delight in brainstorming new ways to prepare the things inside. I'm a big fan of international cuisine. I've made Bi Bim Bop, Khorest e Fesenjan, Indian and Thai curries. I've made sushi and bubble tea. I most love home-style cooking, the kind I grew up with in South Carolina. Black eyed peas and collard greens. Yum!
What I’m doing with my life
When I'm not studying or working as a physical therapist aide, I'm enjoying life to the fullest. Long walks, Turkish coffee, studying anatomy, playing guitar, worrying about the world's geo-political situation, swimming, writing, being the world's traffic and bike safety policeman, hot-tubbing, cuddling with my cat, cooking and eating lots of good food.
I’m really good at
Asking people interesting questions. Being a cat chef to my ailing picky loyal feline steed. Listening to my friends problems. Being there for hugs and snuggles. Kissing. Writing music and evoking emotion. Getting inspired and passionate about my dreams and goals. Going limp when I get a massage. :)
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm really open. I find the good in everyone. Whether you're a grocery clerk, a city council member, a homeless person, transgendered, Republican, high-up, low-down - it doesn't matter to me. I'm raw. My laugh can reverberate across the entire room/neighborhood. Expressing myself directly and honestly is really important to me. It's important to create a space where I can be me and you can be you.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies: I enjoy most all documentaries, any uplifting and inspiring or quirky movies. Cedar Rapids, Amreeka, Julie and Julia, Juno, Pitch Perfect. For the most part I don't go out to movies (muy caro!) but do enjoy watching a movie from the couch every now and then.
Music: world music like Manu Chao and Idan Raichel, female singer songwriters like Shawn Colvin, Ani Difranco, Indigo Girls etc. I enjoy pop punk bands like Someone Loves you Boris Yeltsin and Foo Fighters. Moody stuff like Florence and the Machine or Dead Can Dance. Old time folksters like Cat Stevens. Post-punk Concrete Blonde. I enjoy dancing to just about anything, but particularly latin, funk, house, and world music.
Books: Persepolis, In Between Places, Three Cups of Tea, Reading Lolita in Tehran, Sex at Dawn, Getting Things Done, Radical Simplicity, Maya Angelou's cookbook, Tao te Ching, Persian poetry, Khalil Gibran, Sex at Dawn
Magazines: Foreign Affairs, The Economist
Radio: NPR junkie, Stanford College Radio (especially Arabology and the Stanford Storytelling Project)
Podcasts: RadioLab, The Moth
Food: Every international food. Especially Ethiopian (mmm honey wine!), sushi (mmm plum wine!), and I couldn't live without Mexican food, Mexican people, or Mexico.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
How I can be more effective in achieving my goals. How to have harmony in all of my relationships. What I want in a romantic relationship. World politics, particularly the conflicts in the Arab world. How I'm interacting with the people around me. Wishing I lived in Berkeley or SF where I think I have more kindred spirits. How I miss having family around.
On a typical Friday night I am
Perhaps having a random adventure wandering through the Rodin sculpture garden in Palo Alto, catching a sunset on Hawk Hill in Marin, night biking, participating in a street festival in SF, or maybe just chillin in my hot tub.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have an arsenal of toys. This is by no means an invitation to see them. But let it be known, I'm a very sensual and sexual person and relish expressing myself that way with the right person at the right time.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 30–45
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, activity partners

(Edit: Currently a little inactive on site, sorry if it takes a while to get back. Life is very focused on school and work!)

If you'd like to get to know an engaging, centered, and fun-loving lady. In the long term I'm looking for someone pretty special; a man with a strong character, who is dedicated and passionate, gentle and who has a vision for how to better the world. Also someone who loves to travel. And who makes me laugh! But such connections and finds don't happen overnight. In the meantime I'm hoping to have some fun, meet some interesting folks, and learn more about this amazing world.
