My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I was born in the redwood forest... Well, in a hospital in a town near the redwood forest in Northern California. I moved south to San Francisco for a number of years, then to Colorado for a while, and I just moved to Chicago.

Music is a big part of who I am. I love getting to know people and building new friendships. I like getting sick from time to time so I can appreciate the times when I'm healthy. I once broke my foot while dancing to an LMFAO song.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I spend most of my time these days working from home with people in Texas, Egypt, Germany, and elsewhere. Currently I'm looking into PhD programs that combine my disparate interests in music and technology. Ideally I would like to spend the majority of my time performing, with some technical consulting work on the side to pay for musical instruments that I don't need. I once bought a beautiful guitar. It was so beautiful that I was afraid to play it, so I sold it. Good story.

When I'm not working I like to go on adventures, snowboard, bike, cook, travel, play music, do comedy, converse intellectually, converse non-intellectually, hang out with old friends, meet new friends, and sing in the shower.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making music, cooking, crocheting, talking good, and using the Oxford comma.
The first things people usually notice about me

I couldn't say for sure; I'm not people, I'm me. Some people say that I look like Clark Kent, which sounds like a compliment, but he was really just a guy with glasses. It makes for an easy Halloween costume though, for six years and counting.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Lolita, Catch-22, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Neuromancer, Inherent Vice

Movies: Dr. Strangelove, 2001, The Big Lebowski, Tropic Thunder, The Social Network, Blade Runner, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Prometheus; anything directed by Stanley Kubrick or David Lynch

Shows: 30 Rock, Parks & Recreation, Louie, The League, Mad Men, Top Gear, The Mighty Boosh, Dr. Who, Flight of the Conchords

Food: Anything and everything. I love to cook and to eat in or out. I like to eat meat, but I love cooking for and eating with people who don't, dietary restrictions and preferences are fun to work with.

Music: My parents are jazz musicians, as am I, so jazz is close to my heart. I like music of various shapes and sizes though. I have cycles I go through with music. Sometimes I get on a rap kick. Sometimes I listen to Led Zeppelin on repeat. Occasionally I'll listen to country (think Willie Nelson or Zac Brown, not Big & Rich). Sometimes I listen to Pearl Jam's Ten over and over, for which I am completely unapologetic. I don't hear much new music unless someone introduces me to it, so be that someone.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Music, love, laughter, family, friends, and music.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Big questions like "what do I want to be when I grow up?" Also little questions like "where did I put my keys?" (I tend to lose things.)

I think too much, it's a problem. Sometimes I think I would be happier if I thought less, but it's easier to think about not thinking than it is to actually do it, or not do it...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out with friends or strangers, performing, or dirtying every dish in the house for several hours in service of one meal. I no longer drink, but I have no problem being around those who do. I'm a great sober enabler, and I make a mean Manhattan.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I go through conditioner faster than I do shampoo. Shh... It's a secret.
