I am thoughtful, funny, and right now in Israel.

My Self-Summary

I am excited to meet interesting people through this site, but not as excited about trying to summarize myself in these paragraphs. I tend to like the idea of meeting different kinds of people and finding out what's interesting about them, face to face, so let's try that.

I know it would be nice if I said something else about myself, but you should just judge me based on my taste in movies or music or something. Or we should just meet up and see what we're like; I like seeing people's facial expressions.

What I’m doing with my life

I work at a government agency as a financial analyist which is a good job but not 'who I am'. I hang out with friends a lot, and I try to take advantage of being in this great big bundle of culture (not always easy, but definitely rewarding).

I'm good at financial analysis and it pays the bills (in New York, those bills need a lot of paying) but I feel my future lies either in the filmmaking or in law (that's maybe a little more 'who I am'). Meanwhile I'm mostly just figuring out what's next and having a great time in the meantime.

I’m really good at

long discussion.

caring.

not caring (sometimes).

Boggle.

not listing things I'm really good at.

remembering numbers.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm friendly.

I often get random (often annoyed or concerned) comments from strangers for not wearing a coat ever. I just don't care for it, and the cold doesn't really bother me. Occasionally I do wear a coat, and if you're cold, you can have it.

I'm told that I'm tall and have a beard.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

1984, 2001, The Hitchhikers' Guide, Freakonomics, many things (maybe anything) by Kurt Vonnegut, The Selfish Gene, Calvin and Hobbes. Right now I'm re-reading Watchmen and also reading Gould's Book of Fish (a Australian concept novel), and they're both quite excellent.

Anything Coen Brothers, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2001, Shaun of the Dead, Magnolia, Brick, Punch Drunk Love, You Can Count On Me, The Triplettes of Belleville, Back to the Future...I really could go on and on, so I'll stop.

The Beatles, Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, Andrew Bird, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Philip Glass, Jon Brion, They Might Be Giants. I've been listening to a bunch of random stuff I just got, and am truly loving Cloud Cult and Panda Bear. I also appreciate and love all sorts of classical and jazz, but without necessarily knowing who I'm listening to (with the exception of Dave Brubeck).

Ice cream. I really like ice cream, and really just frozen treats of any kind. I am also on a search for the best pizza in New York City, which is a pretty fun search to be on. Seafood is also delicious (and right now it's the only kind of animal I eat). Despite that limitation, I really like trying new interesting exciting strange funny foods and food combinations. I'm trying to become a little more of a foodie, or exploring my inner foodie, but the kind of foodie who also thinks a McDonald's milkshake is one of the greatest things ever (despite not being a big fan of McDonald's; what can I say, I'm full of contradictions).

The six things I could never do without

Ice cream. Friends. Laughter. My bike. Good films and music. Travelling. Traveling.

I probably could actually do without maybe half of those things, but I can't imagine why I would.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

people. How they are, how they interact, what they spend a lot of time thinking about.

Recently, for some reason, I've often found myself daydreaming about how technology will (and won't) change our everyday lives. It's an interesting thing to think about, and I'm a little impatient to see what happens.

Editors

On a typical Friday night I am

probably a little tired (I'm often pretty busy all week and the rest of the weekend) but probably having a couple of drinks with friends and catching a movie or a show (music, comedy) if it's worth getting more tired for. Otherwise I'm doing those things on a Saturday night.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I was pretty sceptical about the whole online dating thing, and to be honest I still am. But I'm usually pretty excited about people, and so I'm hoping to meet some interesting new people through this crazy internet machine.

You should message me if

you think we'd have a good conversation over drinks or interesting food (or even boring food).

you want to know more.

you like to laugh (okay, that's ridiculous, everybody likes to laugh).

you want to say 'hi' or anything else you might feel like saying.
