I grew up in northern Virginia, studied in Pennsylvania, and afterward returned to the DC area. I enjoy reading, cycling, running, hiking, tennis, playing guitar and piano, cooking, watching movies, attending concerts and talks, and meeting with friends. I am generally quiet and prefer tranquil environments.

I'm preparing for a trip to Paris, Normandy, and Provence/ Côte d'Azur in late May / early June.

I work as an electrical engineer and project manager. I live in a house in Rosslyn. I read the New York Review of Books and the London Review of Books. I go running and biking along the Potomac river and in Rock Creek Park. I meet friends for drinks and food. I stare through the window at swaying trees while sipping coffee and ponder the absurdity of human existence.

Books: These days, I mostly read history, policy, philosophy, and science books. I've enjoyed fiction and essays by Camus, Hesse, Dostoevsky, Kafka, Saint-Exupery, Vonnegut, Malamud, A.B. Yehoshua, Unamuno, among others.

Movies: Pretty much everything by Wes Anderson; Woody Allen's Annie Hall and Sleeper; pretty much everything by Ingmar Bergman; Kurosawa's Ikiru and Rashomon; the Three Colors series Blue, White, and Red; Il Postino; Un coeur en hiver; Le Notti Bianche; Citizen Kane; the Third Man; Dr. Strangelove

Music: Classical and baroque music with piano and/or violin; Chopin's and John Field's nocturnes, Satie's Gymnopedies/Gnossiennes; post-rock (e.g. Explosions in the Sky), folky rock / finger-style guitar (e.g. Iron & Wine, John Fahey, James Blackshaw, Jose Gonzalez, Neil Halstead).

Food: Indian, Thai, French, and Italian. I usually cook pasta, soup, stir-fry and Indian and Thai curries.
