I was born in New Jersey but I've bounced around a lot (NY-RI-NY-WI) and just came back for a job. I blow glass professionally and love plants and bees as inspiration. Cooking, music and exploring nature are definitely my stronger passions as I have been doing them for as long as I can remember. I am close with my family and have a grey fluffy affectionate cat. Recently I've started beekeeping and creating larger scale sculpture.
What I’m doing with my life
I am an artist and glass teacher so I divide my time between anything I find interesting to add to my art and working in a studio teaching others.
I’m really good at
Art: I've been blowing glass for a while now but I know my way around a welder and power tools, which allow me to make my art out of anything it needs to be made with.
Cooking: I'm on a Thai curry and baking banana bread for the moment (don't worry I keep those two menus separate)
The first things people usually notice about me
I am really friendly and smile a lot when I first meet someone.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Louise Bourgeois' Diary, botanical books, The Secret Life of Bees, I just started reading my grandmothers books this summer and hope to get through all of them
Movies: DaVinci Code, Benjamin Button, Knocked Up, Inception
Shows: Planet Earth, Ted Talks, Downton Abby, White Collar, Mind of a Chef
Music: Augustana, Mumford & Sons, Decemberists, The Mammals, Crooked Still, and Fleet Fox
Reggeaton, Janelle Monae, Black Eyed Peas, and current top hits (for when I blow glass, I know its cheesy but sometimes you just have to)
Food: I love good food! Korean, Vietnamese, Indian, or Ethiopian food is wonderful! I have a big sweet tooth (high quality chocolate mostly)
The six things I could never do without
Family (I include my cat when it comes to family)
Good Stories (public radio fulfills much of this need)
Exceptional dark chocolate
A place to make art
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What sculpture I will be working on next and how to improve as a teacher.
On a typical Friday night I am
There is nothing typical about my life right now, but to fit this category I would have to say chilling with friends or family. (It is more often charging a furnace of glass though)
You should message me if
You see something here that you would like to talk about!
