I am an eternal quixote, an aspiring old soul, and a dialectic.

My Self-Summary

I am learning to be happy, to live with purpose, and to love the people around me. I am serious and silly, humble and rebellious, nerdy and laid back, aloof, by your side... I'm an old soul who doesn't know the shape of his destiny but is meandering through and gaining an appreciation for the journey. I'm an Aquarius/Taurus rising, INFP and a Rat, most of which seem to fit pretty accurately.

What I’m doing with my life

Who I was and am for now: I grew up insulated in small communities in Phoenix until found inspiration to be my own person in college. Two years and no majors later, I set off on my own to Argentina for a few months, came back and decided to learn something practical. Between finishing culinary school and having my life challenged and changed by a friend who I lost to a motorcycle accident, I struck out for Portland on my own, making good on the promise he made to bring me here someday.

Two years since then, I've discovered more about myself and found that I have a capacity to love people and take care of them, that I can be blown away by people with talents and personalities that I can't hold a candle to, and that life has the potential to be amazing even in the darkest void.

I’m really good at

Squandering myself for others, starting too many projects and forgetting the ones I began the week before. I'm a good listener when you're down, a gracious host at other people's parties. I like to raid pantries and see what I can whip up and try to pass off as gourmet. I imbue life and gestures with sentiment and try to live conscientiously.

The first things people usually notice about me

I believe in paying it forward and random acts of kindness... I come off as well bred but earthly and most people speak well of me.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(Is it just me or does everybody on this site seem to like to read?)
Atlast Shrugged, Lois Lowry -The Giver, Karen MacNeil's Wine Bible, Robert Jordan, LE Modessit Jr, Terry Pratchett's Discword, Cormack McCarthy (The Road), Daniel Quinn (Ishmael), Orson Scott Card, Neal Stephensen (Snow Crash), Vernor Vinge, Marry Shelley, Bram Stoker, Nelson Demille, Camus, Calvin and Hobbes :)

Jason Mraz, Sondre Lerche, Lior, Wainwright, Simone, Schubert, Brahms, Paul Simon, Beatles, Cat Stevens, ???
I grew up on bad church music...if anybody wants to educate me, go right ahead.

Gruyere and brie, white balsamic redux, olive loaf, red pepper hummus, vanilla beans, finger foods and plates to share around. And hummus... oh god

The six things I could never do without

friends to love, friends who love me back
dancing shoes
NPR
wanderlust
good hugs,
backs to rub

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What the next horizon holds,
who I want to be and how I'm getting there
where my next adventure takes me
how much I hate waking up at 5:00 for a 6:30am shift.

On a typical Friday night I am

Taking a friend out to dinner,
thinking of going out to dance tango
lounging with a book
waiting for Sunday when I actually have my weekend (and everybody else has already had theirs)

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I mentally project myself as a redheaded Irish bloke instead of as Korean. Part and parcel of having a Celtic name
