My self-summary
I'm Matt. I'm a software engineer who likes to read about economics and finance. In case it wasn't obvious, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool nerd. I grew up in Missouri, and I have the classic Midwestern/Southern approach to people. I'm respectful, loyal, and when the situation calls for it, honest to a fault.

I'm an interesting fusion of Midwestern suburbanite and city aficionado. I love the interesting places to eat, shop and hang out that the city offers. I also love puzzles of all kinds, baseball games, hiking, bike riding (a new thing for me) and walking around parks with my dog.
What I’m doing with my life
After detours through the Ozarks, Texas and Los Angeles, I moved to the Bay Area in August of 2007 to take a job at Apple as an engineer. I do this for a living:

I moved to San Francisco in February of 2012, and couldn't be happier with that decision. Four months later, I adopted Trooper, an adorable Chihuahua/Terrier mix, from the San Francisco SPCA. I bought a condo downtown, but decided the mega-density of downtown wasn't my thing. Just a couple of weeks ago, I sold my place and moved to an apartment in the Inner Sunset.
I’m really good at
Finding logical explanations for the seemingly insane.

Answering your burning questions, be it because you need to know or it's just for fun.

Making people I care about smile when they've had a hard day.

Pretty much any problem that can be solved by using, writing, hacking, or otherwise manipulating computer software.
The first things people usually notice about me
My big blue eyes, my independence, or my sense of humor.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite book is Stephen King's "Cujo".

As for movies... I like pretty much anything, but I tend to avoid horror.

My favorite TV shows are mostly crime dramas like NCIS, Law and Order: SVU, and Criminal Minds.

I like a lot of pop/alt rock music. Some of the artists you'd find in my library in large numbers: Anberlin, Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5 and 3 Doors Down.

I'm not really attached to particular foods. It depends on the day.
The six things I could never do without
1. My family
2. My friends
3. My dog: one cute little thump of that tail and even the worst day gets better.
4. My job
5. My phone
6. Challenge: people say variety is the spice of life, and it is, but the best kind of variety makes you think.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ways I can improve other people's lives enough to get paid for it. What my family and friends back in the Midwest are up to. My little dog, and how cute he is.
On a typical Friday night I am
Relaxing at home with the dog and recharging for the weekend. Most of my friends are nine-to-fivers with commutes, so Saturdays and Sundays are more active.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a classic southern accent. It's gotten weaker over my years in California. However, it comes out really strongly after a trip home to visit the family, or if I'm particularly passionate about something.
I’m looking for
  • Straight girls only
  • Ages 23–36
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
You think I sound interesting and we might have things in common.

You have a cute dog and would like to have a dog play-date with Trooper and I. (Spoiler: I've yet to meet a dog I didn't think was cute)

You'd like to explore the city with me.

We'll see where it goes from there.
