I don't really consider myself a poet, but I'm taking a poetry
class this semester and its a lot more fun than I expected. =)
Here's two of the poems I've written that I actually like:
Fear
green tubing snaking in nostrils
(the Egyptians pulled the brain out that way,
they used a hook)
forcing oxygen into pink twitching lungs
careful! its flammable
drip drip in a clear bag
white hot pinprick injection
sterile glaring walls and tile floors
(easier to clean, blood and vomit)
shiny steel surgical instruments
doctors wearing masks suture
probe fix dizzy-nauseous

distracted by waiting room magazines
uncontrollable spread of disease
hospitals only smell like hospitals
Childhood Memory
absorbent carpets crush dreams
for it was a grand plan
only alloted one plastic cup of water
each after snacktime and once a day
poured out in loving libation persistently
on damp blue carpet splotches
for these future Noahs
with long term nutrition provided
by pilfered Halloween candy sweet
like punishment anticipated and avoided
the flood would take away the tyranny
of day care lies about Santa Claus
(his elves are everywhere)
and lost children two by two
there were real animals on the ark
but here couches are stuffed
soggy cushions not drooping
but gloriously floating away
and up mastered basement stairs
and out into the world as captains
