My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
PhD student from the US in China for research. Currently out east but will be in Chongqing early December. Looking for new friends, adventure partners, lovers, or all of the above...not into anything terribly serious at the moment, but of course will see where things go.

It will take me a while to rewrite the below profile to change the location specific references. Extra points if you can guess where I'm coming from!

I'm a wanderer at heart; I like to see how things turn out and change: ergo, not good at self-summaries (or at okcupid, so bear with me). I'm always looking for people who can teach me a few more things about life. Chilled out. Politically left. INTP.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
In grad school, writing about Chinese cinema and an weave of cultural/media theories. You might see me reading a book at a dingy bar (e.g. mortimers) next to the vikings fans who are cheering. Or, I might be getting very worked up arguing with someone about a letter written by X novelist to Y philosopher. Or, you might find me in a coffee shop mesmerized by facebook.

Less flippantly, I'm trying to figure out how to be political again, after having been lost in books and films, which has been very rewarding, but limited.

I also like movies, snowboarding, music, urban exploring, being near bodies of water (even ten thousand of them), and whiskey.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
being oblivious
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm probs not paying attention to what is going on in my immediate environment. (see above)

Books I'm digging right now: Maxine Hong Kingston, Warrior Woman; Friedrich Kittler, Discourse Networks; I also like Arundhati Roy, Will Faulkner, and Henry James, who writes gems such as: "She had always observed that she got on better with clever women than with silly ones, like herself; the silly ones could never understand her wisdom, whereas the clever ones--the really clever ones--always understood her silliness."

My life is starting to resemble a Wong Kar-wai movie with wordless trysts that end up not working out. I have a snobby taste in movies: Red Desert, La Chinoise, Breathless, 世界/The World, Stranger in Paradise, Vive L'amour, Bicycle Thief, Yellow Earth, Happy Together, Xala, 2 to 3 things I know about her, The Other Half. I was very underwhelmed by the new Hunger Games.

Television: TWIN PEAKS!! I'm a very sporadic television viewer. My TV is netflix. Other shows I have been obsessed with at certain points in my life: The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse.

My itunes collection stopped growing sometime in 2006, so here's what I got: modest mouse, 2pac, m.i.a., Nas, NoFX, blink 182, atmosphere, the roots, the fugees, lauryn hill, wilco, lupe fiasco, denizen kane, typical cats, beatles, ani difranco, amy winehouse, lady gaga, some others, I'm kind of out of the loop, but I do love music I swear.

Food: The most recent cooking intrigue for me is how to make very neat looking japanese soba noodles. I've been failing mostly. A successful, although unrelated, experiment with coleslaw happened over thanksgiving however. I like asian cuisines. And newamerican.
