My self-summary
I'm new to Indy and I don't really know anyone here. So I'm looking for people to hang out with. The nerdier you and your pals are, the better. Anyway.

I like:

sleep
Gintama (like . . . really)
tea
bones and skeletons
languages
writing systems
other cultures
ice cream
cute things
anime
giraffes
maps
green olives, esp. on pizza
TVtropes
Japanese stuff
nonstandard grammar

I am somehow both aloof and neurotic. When I get into something, I get in deep. I'm the kind of person who listens to one song on repeat for hours or a single album for weeks, or play the same game several times in a row. Basically everything else is dead to me. I'm not too adventurous, excepting my cerebral wanderlust. I like things to be simple and easy. I can talk to anybody, as long as you meet me halfway in carrying a conversation.

Also one or more of the following: Defrosting Ice Queen, Kuudere, Tsundere, Deadpan Snarker, Ditzy Genius, Cloud Cuckoolander, Meganekko.
What I’m doing with my life
Listening to podcasts. Comedy is keeping me sane.

Writing about things when I have no business doing so. My dumb site is idiotfromindiana.com. Highly recommended. I don't mean that.

Graduated from IU, double major in anthropology and linguistics. I want to go back to school, but I'm still narrowing my field of study. Getting real close.
I’m really good at
writing
editing
learning
procrastinating
napping (cf. above)
following recipes
buying books and not reading them
starting things and not finishing them
caring for my pet
wrapping presents
thinking too much
Dr Mario

I'm good with makeup but rarely wear it. I think of it as an art to be practiced, and I do that late at night in my pajamas with noplace to go. I've been meaning to create a series of looks based on various Pokemon, the first of which was Absol but I'm the WORST at selfies, so no I can't prove it. Or maybe it's just that selfies are the worst? Yeah. That one.

I like gaming but I'm not good at (most of) them. Nolan North has called himself more a "fan of the gaming industry" and that's a pretty good descriptor for me too. I'm not into games like War of Duty, Medal of Warfare, Honor Call, etc. I'm having a hell of a time trying to describe what kinds of games I do like, so maybe they don't have all that much in common.

I can tell you lots of theoretical things about languages I don't speak. Most of my language knowledge is theoretical. Presently learning kanji for the express purpose of reading Moeyo Ken. (History nerd lyfe.) And while I'm getting a bit rusty, I'm also a fairly confident Norwegian speaker.
The first things people usually notice about me
Maybe my hands? They're my best feature. I apparently talk too softly, but am pretty funny in the off hours. Also, did I lose an earring.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: A Kiss Before Dying, Desperate Passage, The Things They Carried, Palahniuk's Survivor, More than it Hurts You, the Lake of Dead Languages. Currently reading lots of stuff, sporadically.

Poets: Ross Gay, Sharon Olds, Mark Strand, my friend Rachel.

Movies: Hawaii Oslo, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The 13th Warrior, Primal Fear, Soldier, Fight Club, Ip Man, Tombstone, O Brother Where Art Thou, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, The Land Before Time. Older Disney stuff. Foreign films, mostly so I can listen to the languages. I also love action movies. Recommend some.

Anime: Gintama, Darker than Black, Death Note, Attack on Titan, Natsume Yuujinchou, Samurai Flamenco, Bleach. Currently watching Gintama, Yowamushi Pedal, the live action Nobunaga Concerto (this counts as anime, yes), and TONS of other shit. Currently reading Gintama, Chihayafuru, Kaze Hikaru. You are seeing some patterns emerge, right? If you can find the underlying thread in this profile I might just love you forever.

TV: Some enduring favorites are Battlestar Galactica, Futurama, DS9, Third Watch, Pushing Daisies, Lost (to a point, let's say). Newsradio—scratch that, Gintama is the pinnacle of all things. Newsradio is still pretty good though.

Games: Assassin's Creed series (with some exceptions), Mass Effect series, ilomilo, Persona 4 Golden, Skyrim, Fez, Puzzle Bobble, Picross (whatever ya got), all the Pokemans, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland. Currently playing Far Cry 4. Wooo christmas PS4.

Podcasts: Stop Podcasting Yourself, The Flop House, MBMBaM, Giant Beastcast, Stuff You Should Know, How Did This Get Made, Giant Bombcast, Stuff They Don't Want You to Know, The Atheist Experience/The Non-Prophets, occasional other MaxFun and Stuff podcasts.

Music: Kaizers Orchestra, Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, Billy Talent, Mutemath, DOES, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Video game and anime soundtracks. Classical. I used to never listen to the radio, but thanks to a short commute now I'm kind of attached to my station. This is a shameful realization. Fuck yeah Todd in the morning.

Food: I rival Chie in love of steak. I haven't had much Turkish but I adore Anatolia in Bloomington. American Chinese. Indian.
The six things I could never do without
Lip balm. Good nail clippers (including a pointed file). Pen (preferably a .38 black or blue G2, or an Acroball white-barreled hybrid in black). Hand lotion. Cold filtered water. Seam ripper.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Wait, what? C'mon, what are you talking about? C'mon.

The universe. Logical fallacies and religious arguments. Also giraffes.

How atheism isn't a religion but it's the best way to get the point across on here.

Canada. It seems lovely.

Grammar Nazis. As a linguist these people really, really offend me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Asleep. Or at home watching anime or doing video games, possibly with a couple of friends. Or writing. All the writing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
A few little things . . .

The smell of seafood makes me gag, and food that's too spicy makes me hiccup.

I think Blade Runner is a bad movie. Eat it.

My natural state is "curse like a sailor" and it embarrasses me sometimes, because I'm often the only one in this state.

I have several video game and anime crushes. If you ask I will just make you guess.
You should message me if
. . . you're smiling in your profile picture, or at least look charming, and you have your shirt on. I don't usually get along with people if their pictures do not have these qualities.

. . . you punctuate your sentences. Please. Please.

If all you have to say is "Hey", "How are you", "What are you up to", "I'd like to get to know you better", or variants—this will be deleted immediately. You have been warned.
