I am somehow both aloof and neurotic. When I get into something, I get in deep. I'm the kind of person who listens to one song on repeat for hours or a single album for weeks, or play the same game several times in a row. Basically everything else is dead to me. I'm not too adventurous, excepting my cerebral wanderlust. I like things to be simple and easy. I can talk to anybody, as long as you meet me halfway in carrying a conversation.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Listening to podcasts. I'd go insane without a little education in my life.

Writing about things when I have no business doing so. My dumb site is Highly recommended. I don't mean that.

Graduated from IU in May '11, double major in anthropology and linguistics. I want so badly to go back to school but I can't come up with a cohesive program of study. Currently I just work in retail. It's a main source of my stress.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
napping (cf. above)
following recipes
buying books and not reading them
caring for my pet
wrapping presents
thinking too much
Dr Mario

I'm good with makeup but rarely wear it. I think of it as an art to be practiced, and I do that late at night in my pajamas with noplace to go. I've been meaning to create a series of looks based on various Pokemon, the first of which was Absol but I'm the WORST at selfies, so no I can't prove it. Or maybe it's just that selfies are the worst? Same diff.

I like gaming but I'm not good at (most of) them. Nolan North has called himself more a "fan of the gaming industry" and that's a pretty good descriptor for me too. I'm not into games like War of Duty, Medal of Warfare, Honor Call, etc. I'm having a hell of a time trying to describe what kinds of games I do like, so maybe they don't have all that much in common.

I can learn language like a fiend, if I'm interested enough in it. I'm currently working through the basics of Italian and Portuguese, and I'm trying to get into Japanese. And while I'm getting a bit rusty, I'm also a fairly confident Norwegian speaker. SatW ftw.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Maybe my hands? They're my best feature. The people I've met recently said I'm sweet and approachable. Also, did I lose an earring.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: A Kiss Before Dying, Desperate Passage, The Things They Carried, Palahniuk's Survivor, More than it Hurts You, the Lake of Dead Languages, The Giver. Currently reading lots of stuff, sporadically.

Poets: Ross Gay, Sharon Olds, Mark Strand, my friend Rachel.

Movies: Hawaii Oslo, The 13th Warrior, Primal Fear, Soldier, Fight Club, Ip Man, Tombstone, Jezebel, O Brother Where Art Thou, The Whole Nine Yards, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, The Land Before Time. Older Disney stuff. Foreign films, mostly so I can listen to the languages. I also love action movies. Recommend some.

Anime: Gintama, Darker than Black, Death Note, Attack on Titan, Natsume Yuujinchou, Samurai Flamenco, Bleach. If it has Sugita, Kamiya, or Miyano I will try it. Currently watching Gintama, Sailor Moon Crystal, Noragami, Night Raid 1931, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Tegami Bachi, and tons of other shit. Manga: currently reading Gintama, Tegami Bachi, Kaze Hikaru. You are seeing some patterns emerge, right?

TV: Some enduring favorites are Battlestar Galactica, Futurama, DS9, Third Watch, Lost (to a point, let's say). Newsradio—scratch that, Gintama is the pinnacle of all things. Newsradio is still pretty good though.

Games: Assassin's Creed (the Ezio trilogy mainly), Mass Effect series, ilomilo, Persona 4, Skyrim, Fez, Puzzle Bobble, Picross (whatever ya got), all the Pokemans, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland. Currently playing Hakuoki (løl), Persona Q, Danganronpa.

Podcasts: Stop Podcasting Yourself (I'm addicted right now), Stuff You Should Know, MBMBaM, Giant Bombcast, The Atheist Experience/The Non-Prophets, Serial, occasional other MaxFun and Stuff podcasts.

Music: Kaizers Orchestra, Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, Billy Talent, Mutemath, Hollywood Undead, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Video game and anime soundtracks. Classical.

Food: I'm on a Chie level of steak-loving. I haven't had much Turkish but I adore Anatolia here in town. American Chinese. Indian.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Lip balm. Good nail clippers (including a pointed file). Pen (preferably a .38 black or blue G2, or an Acroball white-barreled hybrid in black). Hand lotion. Cold filtered water. Seam ripper.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The job situation in this town. It's abysmal.

The universe. Logical fallacies and religious arguments. Also giraffes.

How atheism isn't a religion but it's the best way to get the point across on here.

Canada. It seems lovely.

Grammar Nazis. As a linguist these people really, really offend me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Asleep. Or if I'm off the next day, at home watching anime or doing video games, possibly with a couple of friends. Or writing, that's been quite common lately.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
A few little things . . .

The smell of seafood makes me gag, and eating food that's too spicy makes me hiccup.

I think Blade Runner is a bad movie. Eat it.

I have several video game and anime crushes.

. . . you're smiling in your profile picture, or at least look charming, and you have your shirt on. I don't usually get along with people if their pictures do not have these qualities.

NOT if all you have to say is "Hey", "How are you", "What are you up to", "I'd like to get to know you better", or variants. This will be deleted immediately.
