I am optimistic, playful, and compassionate.
My Self-Summary
I'm an improvisor. I teach and perform improv, and I try to
practice what I preach - I tend to say yes to adventures and i'm
good at rolling with what life gives me. I love a good time with
good people and I don't take things too seriously, because even if
things go wrong, there will be a chance to try it again soon
enough.
I'm outgoing and curious, which means I'm relatively easily amused,
so life is fun. I think people and relationships, in all of their
forms, are the reason to be here. I like hearing people's stories,
and figuring my own out.
I have a job I love. I love climbing, though so far, I've stuck to
the climbing gym - my first outdoor venture still awaits me. I'm
close with my family. I grew up with a big dog and have a soft spot
in my heart for them, though I am currently dogless. i've got a
sister in Seattle and totally dig the vibe up there. I'm a
pescetarian. I like to watch tivo'd episodes of the Daily Show over
breakfast.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an improvisor - I had no idea that was a job a person could
have until I landed in it. I play as a member of an improvisational
theater company in San Francisco, and I teach improv to adults and
high school students.
In the summers, I volunteer at a backpacking camp up in the
Sierras, where I get my fix of sleeping under stars and breathing
fresh air. I don't get to go every year, but it's one of my
favorite places.
Other than that?
Seeking the elusive 8-hour night of sleep
Having a love affair with my Honda Fit
Trying to perfect my ginger cookie recipe
Raising a variety of house plants
Visiting my family in the East Bay
Looking for more time to read
I’m really good at
quoting movie lyrics
improvising
finding the right word
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall and I have red, curly hair. Those two things don't
generally go unnoticed. And I think people notice my laugh. Largely
because I don't go long without laughing most of the time, and when
I laugh, I laugh heartily.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
hmmm...
Tom Robbins, Steinbeck, Dr. Seuss, Keith Johnstone, Harold and the
Purple Crayon, Isabel de Allende
Shawshank Redemption, Waiting For Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Singin'
In The Rain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Noises Off!
The Killers, Cake, Paul Simon, Brandi Carlile, Ani Difranco,
Counting Crows, Gipsy Kings, Bebe, The Avalanches, Edith Piaf, Ella
Fitzgerald, The Postal Service, Queen, MIKA, Traveling Wilburys,
old school early 90's rap. There's not a whole lot I don't like if
the moment's right.
Food? I'm pretty easily pleased, and VERY grateful for the plethora
of dining options in San Francisco. I love Indian food and sushi
and macaroni 'n' cheese and stone fruit and pad thai and cornbread
and steamed veggies and white rice and nutella. Generally not all
together, but then again, I've never tried.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
People. What they want and why they do what they do, which
inevitably leads to thinking about why I do what I do. How to keep
my students engaged. When i'm going to get around to renewing my
parking permit. Why some stories are compelling and some aren't.
What i forgot to do earlier today (note parking permit). The weird
way that lives intersect.
On a typical Friday night I am
My world shifts pretty constantly, so typical is hard to pin down,
but in general, I'd say I'm in a show, at a show, visiting my
nearest and dearest, or enjoying a glass of wine with friends.
