I am pensive, german, and determined.

My Self-Summary

If I had enough money, I would buy a complete set of the Oxford English Dictionary, unabridged. I'd probably have to get another apartment just to house the beasts, but that's okay. Although now, it's going completely digital. Kind of sad. I'm a veg (meaning vegetarian, not a vegetable). I have a cat named Sally. She's originally from Brooklyn, so she dresses better than most people I know. In addition to literary and feline pursuits, I like bikes. I also have an affinity for border collies and clips from "The Muppet Show."

What I’m doing with my life

I teach remedial English and composition at the college level. It's similar to trench warfare.

I’m really good at

observing, listening, talking, not talking, finding things to not talk about, writing, reading. In general, literacy is a good thing.

The first things people usually notice about me

Height, my watch, volume of my voice, my orange toggle coat.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

A) What a vicious task for a literary nerd. In Cold Blood, Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, most Salinger works, Joan Didion's essays, Yeats' poems and plays, James Tate's poetry, Haruki Murakami's short stories, Graham Greene's The Third Man/ The Power and the Glory/The Heart of the Matter. I dig the Brits and the Irish, which sometimes causes a conflict of interest.

B) Rear Window, Amelie, Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Babe (I'm sort of into the anthropomorphization of animals), Annie Hall, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Entre Les Murs (The Class).

C) Elliott Smith, Liz Phair (pre-sell out), Sleater-Kinney, Yo La Tengo, Cat Power, Violent Femmes, CSNY, Quasi, M. Ward, Death Cab.

D) Nice salads, good french fries, gouda cheese, tacos, Clementines.

The six things I could never do without

my MacBook, a pen, paper, my messenger bag, some sort of musical accompaniment, water (it's easy to get dehydrated).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

words: how they sound, what they look like. You know how you look at a word and say it over and over again and it loses meaning? That's what I do sometimes.

On a typical Friday night I am

watching a movie, maybe at a bar, out to dinner, loafing about at home, making papier mâché likenesses of myself. It varies.
