I am down-to-earth, honest, and kinda nerdy.

about me.
so...
here goes:
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to find balance in the midst of it all; I suspect that's no
different than most people.
I’m really good at
I'm a pretty modest person but I also know that I'm an honest,
down-to-earth, and kind-hearted person. I give a lot of myself
(whether it's my time, my humour, my shoulder to cry on, my advice,
or my ears) to those I love and have been told that I give too much
of myself but I don't see it that way; it's just the way I
am.
And on a far less serious note:
I am a stellar procrastinator but I am also really good at getting
the job done when it counts. I'm also great at falling UP the
stairs (you heard me); having lengthy discussions in tangential
manners; analyzing texts; and overanalyzing texts.
Or at least I pretend to be.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd like to think it's my "beautiful blue eyes," or my "sarcastic
sense of humour" but if I'm being honest (and I always am) I'd have
to confess that my height is probably what gets noticed first.
Being a 6' tall woman can sometimes intimidate others, but I tend
to forget I'm so "tall," and height's not an issue for me.
Having been curious and asked around I was delighted to hear that
"eyes" and "lips" were top contenders, but one can never be too
sure. (Whatever that means.)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
far too many to mention and far too many yet to be discovered.
However, honourable (yes, I choose to spell it that way) mentions
go to:
Books
are vital to my well-being and so I strive to read as many as
possible. Alas, there's always more to read and I love that.
Favourites include: As I Lay Dying (
William Faulkner), Giovanni's
Room (
James
Baldwin), Waiting for Godot (
Samuel Beckett), Poetics of
Space (
Gaston
Bachelard), The Practice of Everyday Life (
Michel de Certeau)...did
I mention that my degrees are in English??

Movies
I must confess I'm something of a movie critic. I abhor terrible
movies but I have oh so much fun bashing them. I can, however,
definitely appreciate a good movie. Some notable ones are:
Stand By Me,
Babel,
Last King of
Scotland,
Kramer vs. Kramer.
Music
is also terribly vital. My taste in music is varied and generally
depends on what I'm doing, or at the very least my mood. Music is
incredibly nostalgic for me and so it's difficult to be brief and
even more difficult to articulate my interest. That
notwithstanding, I like most music and have been known to blare the
stereo to many genres. My heart, however, really belongs to the
"grunge/alternative" era of the 1990s.
Notable bands:
Smashing Pumpkins,
Foo Fighters,
U2,
Nirvana....this list is endless
really.
Hitting shuffle on my ipod will likely play (the above as well as)
the following (and several others):
Radiohead,
Mendelssohn (anything classical),
Live,
John Legend,
Matt Wertz,
The Frames,
Enya,
Alicia Keys,
City and Colour,
Barenaked Ladies,
Billie
Holiday,
Incubus,
Tracy Chapman,
Nelly Furtado,
Miles Davis,
I Mother
Earth...
Food
This one's simple.
Sushi=yum.
The six things I could never do without
(the implication, of course, being that I could "actually" live
without these things, and would just rather not live without them
for any extended period of time )
1. My son. Yes, I have one. In this category goes the rest of my
family, and my friends.
2. A really good book...and (2.5) a pencil to scribble notes in
it.
3. (Safe and Consentual) sex--with the right person, of course.
Disclaimer: I'm not looking for meaningless sex with some random,
sketchy stranger.
4. A shower at least once a day--unless perhaps I was camping. and
even then i'd probably bathe in the lake, or even rain
5.
camping/hiking/walking/wandering/exploring
the city/outdoors. Anything near water or outdoors basically.
6. My
camera. And
of course the ability to take pictures with it. If I could have my
camera but couldn't take pictures that would just be mean.
I crave
creativity in my life and I work to
be actively creative everyday.
did I really just put "a really good book" and a "pencil" before
sex?? Perhaps I should state that the above list is not in any
particular order...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Now that I'm done grad school my thinking-load has been greatly
reduced (with sadness and joy). The sadness part reveals my nerdy
nature.
No worries. I also spend my time thinking about far less nerdy
things. For instance, I spend a lot of time thinking about why on
earth some people still can't understand "walk left, stand right."
On a typical Friday night I am
breathing. typically.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
right. because you knew me so well before you read my profile??
(yes, that requires two question marks.)
You should message me if
you:
a) believe in free will. (see, i made a joke. albeit a bad
one)
b) or are a Spurs fan.
c) are annoyed at the endless listing that goes on on this
site.
But honestly you should message me if you think we'd have a good
conversation or have something in common. I'm also always up for
great book, movie and/or music recommendations. Mostly, though, I'm
looking for that ineffable connection you can have with
someone--when the conversation lasts for hours and you don't know
where the time's gone and the only reason why it's ending is
because the sun's coming up and you still haven't gone to bed
before work. --or when you're with that person and you're just
comfortable in the silence. --or...or perhaps i should stop now
before the sap in me really starts to show
