My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm horrible at summarizing myself, and have previously just listed
a bunch of random facts about me. I am now going to try to be more
complete and, you know, actually use paragraphs and such. I will do
my damndest to avoid prolonged periods of soapbox standing.
Let's get the overarching philosophical bullshit out of the way
first. I am an atheist libertarian who believes that
everyone has a responsibility to avoid intellectual laziness and
contribute to society in a positive and tangible way. I think that
the recent plans for the government to "bail out" the financial
market is utter nonsense and a complete waste of money. I also
believe that the near 1 trillion dollars spent on the War in Iraq
could've gone a long way in helping the people of this
country.
I am also an ardent supporter of environmental protection, and am
currently working in the field of air quality consulting. Not sure
if it is the ideal field for me, but I am testing the waters. I've
thought about going to law school, but that's a pretty big
commitment.
As serious as I may sound to this point, I really don't spend all
day talking about these things, although I do find myself wishing
that people would talk more about them. As far as hobbies go, I
like watching nearly any kind of sports, going to the occasional concert, bowling, seeing movies, and just relaxing at home.
My favorite vacation is snow skiing, and I've been to the
Colorado
mountains 6 or 7 times now and hope to make it a yearly event. I
love white-water rafting, and I am dying to try some more
extreme activities like white-water kayaking and skydiving.
I am a hard-working person when I am at work, but I crave
relaxation time and plenty of variety in my life. I enjoy being in
social situations, but it usually drains my energy. I need plenty
of alone time to recharge. I am absolutely unflappable in almost
any crisis and have been accused of being a bit of a robot. I
assure you though, I have emotions, I'm just in control of
them.
I enjoy working with my hands, especially if it involves a bit of
problem solving and ingenuity. I love working on my car or computer
or any other complicated technology.
I have a 5-year old son named Corbin who stays with me on the
weekends. His mother and I have been split up for 2 years, but I
refuse to be the type of father who abandons his child. I take
pride in being a part of his life, attending parent-teacher
conferences, going to basketball games, and trying to provide a
decent environment.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Right now I'm four courses away from a M.S. degree in Environmental
Science. I work as a consultant for an environmental firm, focused
mainly on air permitting in the oil and gas industry. I've always
had an interest in teaching, but after trying to teach High School
and hating it, I believe that I am better suited for the college
level. My options are many and I've set the bar high for myself,
we'll just have to see where life takes me.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Debating, sleeping until noon, simple games of skill (foosball or
air hockey anyone?), math, science, antagonizing people, fixing
most things on cars,
making computers
run like they should, memorizing songs and singing them loudly,
guitar hero,
complaining about stupid people.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
not much, I tend to blend in.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I don't read a great deal of fiction, but I enjoy Hubert Selby Jr.
Most of my reading is non-fiction, books on evolution or science or philosophy or history. My favorite science author is
Richard
Dawkins. I am intrigued by the objectivist philosophy and works of
Ayn Rand, but
sadly haven't had a chance to really delve into the details, maybe
one day.
I like movies with some substance, movies that try to make a point.
Here's a few of my favorites: Requiem for a Dream,
American Beauty, Donnie Darko, Gangs of New York, Seven, The Ring,
The Fifth Element, Starship Troopers, American History X,
Braveheart, Saw, Running Scared, The Descent, Pan's Labyrinth, The
Fountain.
My favorite directors are Darren Aronofsky, Quentin Tarantino and
Martin Scorcese.
How about TV shows? Seinfeld, ER, Mythbusters, Deadwood, Penn &
Teller Bullshit!, The Office, Masters of Horror,
Friends, South Park, Mavericks Basketball, Stars Hockey, Fear
Factor, Everybody Loves Raymond, House MD, TLC, The Science
Channel, History Channel
I'm pretty narrow minded about music (90% of the world says they
like "everything" - I don't buy it). I like metal, hard rock, rock,
and very little of anything else. Here are some bands: Mudvayne, Disturbed, Hatebreed, System of a
Down, Metallica,
Cold, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Korn, Megadeth, Otep, Nine Inch
Nails, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil,
Avenged Sevenfold, Mushroomhead, Drowning Pool, Blue October, 30
Seconds to Mars, Three Days Grace, Muse, Sick Puppies, Evans Blue,
Lamb of God, Shadows Fall.
As far as food goes, I'll eat just about anything. Trying new foods
is a pleasant experience for me usually.

What I'll be doing with my life in 5 years, if/when I'll ever stop
procrastinating. Environmental, social, and philosophical issues of
the world.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
With my son, usually at home. Watching movies, playing games,
cooking dinner, answering a million questions. Maybe playing
putt-putt, seeing a movie, or at a sporting event.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I like to take baths, I find them more relaxing.
You should message me if Propose an edit
It would probably be best if you weren't strongly religious,
because I will probably get on your nerves (and vice versa). We
should have a decent match % (>65 or so). You should be okay
with the fact that I have a son.
If you meet all that, drop me a line.
Also, if you recognized my 'three words' as a reference to The
Office, please message me!
