I am goofy, fervent, and hystorical (my word).
My Self-Summary
I am a woman in my mid thirties looking for someone special (
aren’t we all?).
I have been in a few serious relationships, but haven’t found the
“one”. I have been doing
yoga once or twice a week for more than a
year now. But am in the early stages of a fitness routine. I love
going to the
movies, talking
politics( alert – I am left of
center!), traveling ( in the U.S. and beyond), exploring who I am
as a person,
cooking and baking, drinking
wine ( prefer full bodied
reds) or the occasional gin and tonic and many more things.
What I’m doing with my life
I work for a non profit, though I have had in between jobs that
were less fulfilling. I love hanging with my friends, spending time
by myself with my hobbies, doing yoga, volunteering with political
campaigns, playing with my cat etc...I would love to travel but
haven't had much opportunity lately.
I’m really good at
I'm good at playing the Crypto Quip game in the paper,
hypothesizing answers while watching Jeopardy, talking about stuff I
know and only kinda know (BS is I believe the term that is au
currant), speaking out against injustice, being a good friend,
giving advice,being creative...
and so much more
The first things people usually notice about me
My laugh ! You will love it or hate it - but I think it is a 4/5
ths love it sorta thing.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books-
For lighter fare- I like novels set in faraway places. Loved
"Memoirs of a Geisha" , liked "the Kite Runner", really enjoyed,"
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamtress" I read all before I saw
the films and enjoyed all of the films quite a bit. Then there are
the books I could read again and again, basically anything utopian
or dystopian(1984, Brave New World, A Handmaid's Tale), ye old
Russian novels, the classics
I love foreign films, arthouse movies, and dumb comedies. I like to
laugh at "Old School", but have enjoyed tons of movies... A few I
have recently seen are: "The Station Agent", "Hellboy II", "When
Did You Last See your Father","The Visitor", "Mongol", "and Sex and
the City", "Stepbrothers",
"The Dark Knight"
But movies I really like are: About a Boy, O Brother Where Art
Thou?, Darjeeling Ltd, Spiderman(2nd was best), Spanish Prisoner,
The Fifth Element, the English Patient,The Usual Suspects.
Though I will see almost any movie- Only a select few have been
given 5 stars or even 4 stars by me.
I like rock n'roll , Indie Rock, and British pop rock:
Right now the heavy rotation on my IPOD is full of Bright Eyes,
Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, and Flaming Lips. Clearly I am a
little behind the times... not the hip music junkie I used to be;
old favs include the Pixies, the Smiths, Proclaimers, Portishead,
Radiohead, Pulp, Blur, Oasis, the Ramones, TREX, Belle and
Sebastion,Duran Duran,ABBA, Velvet Underground to name a few.
AS far as food- I love foreign food , especially Asian. I love to
eat Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. I love to cook
though usually I cook pasta, rice, couscous, and lots of different
veggies with salmon or chicken. Sometimes I crave a baked potato
and a nice steak, but try to keep it fish and poultry or vegetarian
entrees most of the time. I am not a picky eater and can find
something to eat ant any type of place you can think of. I enjoy
baking too but try to just do that for potlucks or bake sales or
parties. I am great at homemade brownies and chocolate chip
cookies.
Oh and they forgot TV-
I watch too much crap for no reason- but love to watch Family Guy,
How I Met Your Mother, the Simpsons, the Office and 30 Rock. Not
into reality as much but like: Hell's Kitchen, Project Runway, I
Survived a Japanese Game Show...
The six things I could never do without
my IPod, Diet Coke ( oh I am an addict.. trying hard to quit), my
passport
( haven't used it lately , but you never know...), my computer ( I
loves the world wide interweb), chocolate ( yummy yummy), and red
wine ( good for your heart and fighting cancer, it 's tasty, and
makes me happy in small quantities)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, how to be a better person, improving my self inside and out,
the state of the world, war and peace, the latest film, music,
latest news, my family, my job, what that annoying tune is in my
brain, why my cat insists on waking me up at 6 am...
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out with my friends, at a movie, driving home to see my Dad
( in Northern KY), or sitting on the couch watching bad tv or the
latest netflix arrival, or perhpas on OKCupid searchin and answerin
questions...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I believe in social justice, and that human rights for all people
is very important. I also believe if more people truly followed the
Golden Rule:" Do onto others as you would have them do to you" the
world would be a much better place.
You should message me if
Some of the following apply to you:
You make “Mick Jagger lips “ when a Rolling Stone song comes on the
radio.
Eating healthier, and doing exercise that’s fun are becoming a
little more of a priority these days- When I mention movies, you
imagine a dark theater, stadium seating, and something that has
“Oscar potential” (or conversely anything with Will Ferrell). You
are working at something you love, or trying hard to get there
someday. Love is something you are looking for in your life, not
just marriage and kids.
I am looking for someone to love. I would like him to have some of
the characteristics above, but at the same time not be my twin (I
have one of those- and no, we are not identical). He should have
passion in his life. Maybe from his work, his hobbies, his family
and friends… He is more than what he looks like on the outside,
though the semi annual haircut, daily grooming, clean clothes and
the occasional new shirt are important too. Money is what pays the
bills and allows him to eat out, see movies and occasionally
splurge on a new cd or music download, not what defines him. And
finally, I have found the above guy in different versions before,
but we did not have “chemistry” or that magnetic connection. I
think this is very important- though my friends tell me this is a
romantic notion. Of course this “click” does not always happen
immediately and can take a little time and getting to know each
other to happen.
