My self-summary
Hey everyone! I'm originally from Northern California (explains the semi-ridiculous username) and I've been living in Austin for about two years now. I study at UT Austin, getting my PhD in Middle Eastern history. I love to travel, I try to go somewhere at least twice a year.
What I’m doing with my life
Mostly studying, writing, and spending time with friends, but on my time off I really love to cafe hop. It's like bar hopping, only better.
I’m really good at
Being happy and making other people happy. I'm good at writing and teaching and a lot of other nonsense. But the most essential thing we can give each other is a smile or a laugh, and I really make an effort to be good at making life as much fun as it can be.
The first things people usually notice about me
I laugh a lot. Like, a lot. Though I'd like to think it's endearing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
So much to write here. I think my favorite films have to be the Godfather trilogy and the Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight trilogy. You can't go wrong with any of those six films (the final Godfather may not be great, but it's part of the series so let's not dismiss it altogether...). In terms of TV shows, I would say Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Nova, and - because I'm just a little too old to be part of the vampire craze but just young enough to appreciate a cast of good looking actors pretending to be mythical creatures - The Originals.

Books... That's too big a question. I'll just say that my favorite books are The English Patient and Catch 22. I have not seen the movie for the latter. I need to get on that.

Food - Italian, Persian, sandwiches. That's where it's at.

I'm not so knowledgeable about music. I'm very into the Persian stuff I grew up with and my dad's hippie music from the 60s and 70s. The Lumineers has been my recent obsession.
The six things I could never do without

1. Entertainment
2. Good books
3. Good friends
4. Good food
5. Good wine
6. Health care
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My future in academia - and my future more generally.

I also spend a lot of time planning trips abroad.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends at some bar or at a party.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I already admitted it in the favorite shows section - I'm very into The Originals. It started with The Vampire Diaries, but I'm no longer terribly invested in that and have begun to watch The Originals religiously, every Tuesday. It's a character flaw, I'm sure.

You should message me if
you think you can make me laugh. You're confident. You get your news from Jon Stewart. You like what you do for a living and are generally a positive person. Your profile is not littered with selfies. And sing-alongs to 90s Disney movies sounds like the time of your life.
