My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm equal parts passionate and pragmatic. My friends and family mean a hell of a lot to me and I'd go to the ends of the earth for them. Dogs and kids like me.

I love to dance. I've got a thing for lists (perhaps bordering on an obsession). I think orange may be the best color ever. I’m never one to say no to strong coffee or a cold gin & tonic. I have a mild obsession with Ernesto (Che) Guevara that started at birth. Books – I’m crazy for books – always have been. I like things spicy (friends, food, travel, etc.)

Things I dig: Aaron Sorkin; nostalgia; al dente pasta; a sweaty run; The New Yorker; Barack Obama; yoga; the Detroit Tigers; growing stuff on my windowsill; the Brooklyn Flea; Hipstamatic; cold beer in the afternoon; West Coast Mexican food; naps.

I'm a kind-hearted, open, and silly soul looking for the real deal.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm interested in good reads, artsy pastimes (serious soft spot for my camera), and all things outdoors. I'm passionate about education, namely providing quality educational opportunities for all kids.

These days I'm part of the education system in DC after stints in NY and LA. I've got a whole lot of time for my students and NOT a lot of time for folks who get in the way of making our schools better. I'm curious to see how the collective "we" can figure out how to harness all the innovation that characterizes this period and secure meaningful schooling for all kids.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Figuring out what makes people tick. Packing a whole lotta fun into an evening. Devouring the Sunday NY Times and a pot of coffee. Reading a map.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The curly locks?

I deem a book "great" if I'm sad at the end because there are no more pages to turn or if the ideas/characters stay with me long after the book's finished. Often these are fiction tales and recent goodies include: Great House and Cutting for Stone. Old faves (fiction and not): Random Family, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, Anil's Ghost.

Movies: Rushmore, Spike Lee Joints, Lost in Translation, Glory, Todo Sobre Mi Madre, Keeping the Faith, Etre et Avoir, You Can Count on Me, and cheesy romantic comedies.

TV Shows: THE WIRE, shameless teen-targeted TV a la the Gilmore Girls (guilty pleasures), reruns of the West Wing & Sports Night.

Music: Jackson 5, the Roots, Prince, De La Soul, Tribe, Mana, Manu Chou, Nina Simone, the Low Down 1 & 2 (early 1990s R & B "classics"), Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, the soundtrack to Fame, Jesse Harris.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Sunday NY Times
Smart phone
Running shoes

Honorable mention: Avocados
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Non-negotiable: A walk with Finnegan Nigel Lamont, my canine companion. Negotiable: Happy hour and all that goes with it; yoga; cooking dinner with friends; shaking it on the dance floor; Getting out of Dodge; my couch, book, wine . . .
