About Me

I'm down to earth, analytical, egalitarian, strong willed and passionate about the things that are important to me but open-minded and tolerant, energetic, youthful, and fun. I enjoy hiking and world travel, am very active in the abortion rights movement (volunteer-wise), and am a vegetarian (I've mostly dated non-vegetarians and don't care what you eat). I love music (Richard Thompson, Billy Bragg, folk, blues, much more, go to about 20 shows/year) and enjoy good conversation. I love high culture (foreign film like Truffaut, Fassbinder, Rohmer, Bunuel, more) and low culture (South Park). I'm a really good communicator, though I realize men are graded on the curve. I seem to relate well to women with a lot of male friends, possibly including some of their ex-boyfriends. First photo is from February 2012, 2nd from October 2010 in Turkey.

Hiking. I did the Grand Canyon (North) rim to (South) rim two years ago, a week backpack in Norway, and 4 Great Walks in New Zealand. I've hiked in many of the National Parks in the US.

My eyes. I get a lot of comments on them.

Favorite recent reading: Taylor Branch's 2500 page trilogy on MLK and the Civil rights movement. The Power Broker by Robert Caro about Robert Moses. Four of the best books I've ever read.

That I appear to be one of the few people on here who is not annoyed by spelling mistakes. Or should I say speling mistakes?

Some sense of what attracts me: smart, strong, open-minded, compatible sense of humor, good talker and listener, like time alone and time with others, down to earth, self-aware. At least once in a while you can tell me something I don't know or make me see something from a new perspective. If you liked Bush, we probably won't be a good match.
