My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm gonna take a break from this for a while. Good luck y'all.

I moved to Nashville a year ago (!!) for a postdoc at Vandy. I've made a bunch of wonderful of friends, been camping in the Smokies (and saw a bear!), started rollin' with the Nashville derby girls, and regularly go hiking in Percy Warner. But there's a lot I haven't seen or done, and I'm excited to get to know and explore the city and the region better!

Things I love to do: generally, I prefer to be outside. Preferably in the back woods, but I'll take a back porch too. I have lots of energy - someone once told me that I'm like a shark - if I stop moving I die. I'm not sure that's entirely true (do sharks really die if they stop moving?), but it *is* true that I'd way prefer to do something rather than watch a movie (unless it's something like Kurosawa's Dreams - man that was good).

I'm super excited about the weather; sunshine makes me happy. Last weekend (you know, which means some weekend in the late spring) I ran the 1/2 marathon I've been training for, and so now I'm onto other outdoor activities! This past weekend I went for a bike ride, went to a cook out, planted my garden, and went for a hike (not all in one day). That's pretty much my ideal weekend.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Recently I've been thinking about things like falling in love, why I seem to fall in love with the wrong people (or is it just the wrong time? or is it not wrong at all?), where I should go for my long runs, how I can bike to get around Nashville, and how to be very deliberate about how I use my work time.

Usually I'm thinking about CA education, the role of school districts and schools as organizations in the education of young people, and about how to turn my dissertation into many, many journal articles.

In general, I love to get sweaty everyday. I dig (and miss) yoga at Urban Flow. Mmm, hot. Northern CA trees delight me. I have favorites. Been thinking of getting a gnarly CA Black Oak inked on my back. And of course riding my bike because, after all, I do love to bike.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Biking. Cooking. Making kids laugh. Teaching. Writing papers (well, that's my supportive self-talk). Getting people to love to camp. Baking challah. Sometimes pushups, although I've been slacking lately.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Crazy curly hair. And my warmth (not my body temperature, but more my, umm, aura?).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Oh there are so many books on my To Read pile. Generally, I like Murakami and David Mitchell and Edward Abbey and peoples like them.

And I love good food. I mainly love to cook good food, but I'm easily persuaded into eating out. Luckily, the NYT and the Guardian have published articles about where I should eat in Nashville, but I'd love to know what you think. I recently converted back to meat after 23 years of veg; I'm on the search for the best hamburger in the city. Recommendations?

I like music, and especially seeing live bands. Super excited to hear all of the live music that people can't stop talking about in Nashville!

I do listen to NPR a lot and especially love Wait Wait, This American Life, and Radio Lab. And Scott Simon, of course.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My bike.
My brothers.
The backcountry.
(I feel like everything else has to start with a B now, but not sure I can pull it off)
NPR (nope, it's over).
Fresh fruits and veggies.
Running shoes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Education policy, the state of CA public schools, when I'm going to get to cuddle with my nephew (that used to be a matter of days, now months--super sad face), how quickly I can finish the Monday crossword (the other days I just want to finish).

I think about words a lot. It's a hazard of my profession.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Usually having dinner with friends. Sometimes at a bar. Now *Thursdays* is dollar night at the Sounds, and the Sounds are pretty much my new favorite thing. No one ever told me about the farm league!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I miss CA a lot. Like, well, a LOT. Mainly cause my family is there, and it's hard being so far away.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're smart. You like to talk. You can teach me something new or a new way of seeing things. You aren't looking for someone to orchestrate your life; you have initiative and spark. You want to go on a hike or a bike ride. (Oh, and you don't smoke. Cigarettes.)

And finally, you're looking for a committed relationship.
